Hmm. I'll try and break this down for the non-UK audience. British Politics 101 incoming.

TL;DR - BoJo leaving has nothing to do with his trans comments.

BJ has resigned as leader of the Conservative Party. He will stay on as prime minister until the Conservative Party elects a new leader. The exact timeline of this will be decided by what's known as the 1922 Committee, but will almost certainly be completed by the time 'conference season' rolls around in October. It is unlikely that the new leader (who will automatically become prime minister) will call a general election, but the Labour Party (the largest party in opposition) have said that they will propose a vote of no confidence in the government, which, if enough MPs vote in favour of it, would automatically trigger a general election.

BJ resigned because his leadership became unstable after more than 50 MPs resigned from ministerial posts and other government positions, including the chancellor Rishi Sunak (in practice the chancellor is the number 2 position in the cabinet after the prime minister), and the health secretary, Sajid Javid.

Why did they resign?

  • Chris Pincher - On June 29th Chris Pincher MP, deputy chief whip of the Conservative Party (a 'whip' is a member of the party that basically tells the other MPs which way they should vote when votes are called) got drunk and groped two men in a private member's club. This led to a slew of other allegations against him which Boris claimed to be unaware of, but it later transpired that he had been aware, but had appointed him as deputy chief whip anyway.

  • 'Partygate' - Both Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak were fined earlier this year for breaking the lockdown rules that they themselves devised and enforced. They had attended several parties at Downing Street during the periods when the UK was in lockdown, and later tried to squirm out of responsibility. 'Partygate' has become a big part of the media circus in the country for some time now.

  • Cost of living crisis - Public opinion has turned very much against the government in recent months since the cost of living in the UK has risen so much so quickly. Household energy bills, food and fuel are now significantly more expensive than they were just a few months ago, and there will be further price rises again in the autumn. How much of this is down to mismanagement by the government and how much is down to economic factors outside their control I am not qualified to say.

And finally

  • Running out of ideas - Boris was elected on the back of the promise to 'get Brexit done'. Beyond this, the Conservative Party didn't really have any concrete policy goals or objectives, and while they have sort of positioned themselves as the party of being 'anti-woke', their messaging has been mixed and they have not presented any kind of united front against wokedom. Penny Mordaunt, a contender in the Conservative leadership race, has previously stated in the house of commons that TWAW, TWAM etc. and has since reflected that that will seriously damage her leadership prospects.

So what will the future hold for British politics and trans dogma? That depends entirely on who wins the Tory leadership race; whether there will be a general election, and who will win the election if so.

[–]ArthnoldManacatsaman 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Fundamentally I think it's because in the West, both transgenderism and support for communism (whatever that means to the individual) are luxury beliefs. There is unlikely to ever be a communist revolution in the stable, democratic Western nations (though watch me jinx it now) so these peoples' beliefs will never be put to the test and they will never have to live under a communist regime.

I doubt very much whether the babushka freezing in the bread line in the harsh Soviet winter ever had the opportunity to contemplate what her pronouns were. I doubt the peasants starving to death in Chinese fields were worried about their neighbours noticing their 'queer' haircut, they were probably more worried about being denounced and persecuted.

I despise modern day communists because they're just so fucking clueless. They think that they will be the ones leading the glorious rainbow revolution of peace and love, yet if they had lived in any communist regime in history they would have been lined up and shot for their bourgeois beliefs. The working classes, the actual doing-the-work working classes, the people in whose name communist revolutions are carried out, absolutely, 100% do not have time for the pronoun games and gender feels. They are the sort of people these blue-haired soyboys denounce on Twitter for 'misgendering' and 'violence.'

These idiotic beliefs are only able to exist thanks to capitalism.

I think Pingwashing Inc. will favour a more incremental change model, and since the 'progress flag' sort of came out of nowhere and now appears to be the 'standard' (see the awful commemorative 50p coin produced by the Royal Mint) my vote will go for 'All Ukrainians Are Gay Now, Apparently', because if there's one thing people love, it's virtue condensing.

[–]ArthnoldManacatsaman 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

My takeaways:

  • I was surprised at how many people were surprinsingly chill about it. Overall it seemed to be 'I'm fine with it, just don't kinda shove it down my throat' - which, to be honest, is fair enough. Even the ones with a broadly negative view tended to have an 'it's not for me but I'm not lobbying for a holocaust' kind of attitude.

  • Before watching the video I thought it would be mostly negative, which I guess tells us more about my stereotypes about the Russian people than it does anything else. I sort of assumed that Russians swallow state propaganda and state propaganda says gay = bad, but clearly I've swallowed some anti-Russian propaganda of my own at some point.

  • However, I wonder to what extent there was a social desirability bias at play. How many people are going to stand with a camera in their face and say 'Yes, I hate gay people, they should be gassed.'? Very few indeed, I would argue.

  • Finally, how representative is this of the opinions of the Russian people in general? The sample seemed to skew younger and urban which we know tend to lean more liberal. Does the average babushka living in a hut in Siberia share the opinions of hip Muscovites?

Very interesting though, thanks for sharing!

While the story itself is about as horrifying as we'd all expect it to be, the pattern of mod comment removal is just so telling. Anyone who says anything remotely along the lines of 'that sounds kind of abusive' or 'a self-inflicted wound on a man's body isn't going to be self cleaning in the same way a woman's vagina is' is instantly removed.

Looks like the post is over a year old now though. I hope she got out. Part of me wants to pat her on the back for staying with him for so long but then another part of me wants to shake her and scream 'What were you expecting?!'

I could never. If I had a partner who 'came out' as trans that would pretty much be the end of it for me.

I wish they would, then it would be seen as deeply unfashionable and this shit would stop.

I've read from a book somewhere that when you selectively breed foxes to become loyal and dog-like, they start evolving color patches and curled ears just like dogs', implying these genes are all connected.

I may not be the 'transphobe' Richard Dawkins but I'm not sure this is how evolution works.

Yeah people get confused when I tell them I’m a lesbian. They must think estrogen makes you like men. I’m like “fuck I don’t even like my own penis let alone anyone else’s”

Edit: I guess I was wrong about the genetics thing. I wanted to feel superior to the wokesters and you will not TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME

To be fair, gay men who use the word 'bussy' do need to be strung up, that much we can agree on.

Edit: How do you imagine the word being pronounced? Does it rhyme with 'pussy' or is it more like bus-y? Like if there were a lot of busses.

'This street is very bussy.'

'Busy?'

'No.'

Good for them really; how to say 'dreamgender is not a thing and we're not countenancing this nonsense' without actually saying 'dreamgender is not a thing and we're not countenancing this nonsense'.

The comments are gold, of course:

All you're doing is causing pain for what appears to be outright evil intent from your side. I hope you receive what you deserve.

Outright evil? There are important discussions to be had on the banality of evil, sure, but I'm not sure this is what anyone has in mind when they use the word 'evil'.

I can't stop thinking about how messed up this is. The LGBTQ+ community doesn't need to "find a balance" as dictated by a single source. There has NEVER been a singular definition for any queer term. We are QUEER, we can't be put in neat little boxes.

Yet the thousands of neat little boxes about pupgender would beg to differ. Beg. Gettit? Like a dog.I'm wasted on you people.

Genuinely anxious about this.

What a charmed life you must lead.

And so it goes on. Honestly, LGB brothers and sisters, make yourself a hot beverage and just read through those comments. It's like a trainwreck of humanity.

Arthnold's Book Corner makes its triumphant debut.

If you're looking for a good Hate-Read definitely consider Detransition, Baby by trans-identified Torrey Peters. Try and get a copy from a library or a woke friend because the author does not deserve your hard-earned [insert local currency].

My review on Amazon was as follows (spoilers are hidden, clumsily).

This review contains spoilers. If you want to read the book yourself, I urge you to reconsider, but also skip this review.

This book is gross. It makes my skin crawl to read it, and I am left with the feeling that all the fawning praise heaped upon it is because it's woke and subversive, not because it's actually a good book that people might want to read. I feel like I've been roped into some autogynephile's sissification fanfiction. Blech.

Reese, our trans-identifying protagonist can't give birth for obvious reasons, so we get 300 pages of misogyny and moaning about that. The 'erotic thrill' she gets from the thought of maybe contracting HIV is compared with the erotic thrill women must get when they might get pregnant. Being beaten by a man is a profoundly erotic experience because what could better affirm her femaleness than being a victim of a horrible crime? 'Cis' women don't know how lucky they are to have functioning reproductive organs, and any woman who doesn't want a child should immediately have a hysterectomy. And other vile rubbish.

Reese is what we might charitably call 'a hot mess'. Frequent affairs with married men ruin several relationships, both her own and those of others. She is in a 'lesbian' relationship with another trans-identifying man called Amy for several years, but then she has an affair with a man who beats her (so erotic! so affirming!) and then walks out on Amy. Years later Amy, now Ames (pron. Aims? Ahmess?) is a man again and has knocked up his boss, Katrina. For reasons known only to himself, he wants Reese to 'co-mother' with the actual, biological mother of this child who, despite initial misgivings, ends up being totally okay with letting a random stranger 'co-mother' with her.

[Spoilers went here]

Reese has a minor conniption when she sees a poster with an offensive anti-transgender slur on it (beginning with T, for those who need it spelled out) but peppers her speech with homophobic and lesbophobic slurs because that's fine, apparently. She sees no problem in in constantly having affairs with married men and, yes, while it does take two to tango, she refuses to admit that this kind of behaviour might be off-putting to people. She also swans around New York thinking she's better than everyone else because she has 'trauma' and 'mommy issues' when the woman literally sleeps in a bathroom and doesn't have a job. Who is she to judge anyone?

We are also treated to stories of Ames's trans awakening, included detailed descriptions of how erotic he found wearing womens' clothes, and how he pays dominatrixes (dominatrices?) to indulge his own 'mommy issues'.

I am against burning books on principle, but I might make an exception for this one.

I regret having bought it tbh, but if I can encourage my gender-critical friends to hate-read it, so much the better.

This is 100% satire. Clues include:

  • The correspondent's name is Benjamin Buttergasp, a thinly veiled allusion to Benjamin Butterworth, a real British journalist and certified train wreck.

  • The Highways Agency has pronouns (it doesn't).

  • Owen Hardcorn is an allusion to Owen Hurcum, the (not Welsh!) mayor of Bangor and another certified omnishambles.

  • Stonewall does not have its own member of parliament yet but please let's not give the Boundary Commission any ideas.
