I forget the name of the documentary, but there was a town in Colorado where everyone got sick with some flu, and something like 70% of the women had symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome after. There's no way in hell she would openly say anything because it would destroy her career and reflect poorly on her family. Kris Jenner barely said anything even though she was clearly crushed by the transition.

However, in the clips I did watch you could see Kim struggling to "sound right" and Khloe became very confrontational over the lies Bruce told. The two younger ones went pale and totally silent and I don't think they've ever really talked about it publicly. So I think at the very least 4/6 woman of the Kardashian-Jenners have peaked, but they'll never publicly say that.

I also read something about Bruce tearing into that interview Khloe had with Howard Stern where she said he lied to everyone in the family.

The one "gender" study on brains that I know of for TiMs used a sample size of 26 people and only looked at MRI imaging. MRI imaging is very unreliable when predicting behaviours, yet people are acting like it's the holy grail of "gendered brain" testing.

I have never come across anyone in a relationship with a TiM that has been healthy. They're almost always emotionally abusive, manipulative, constantly gaslighting, etc. I was sexually abused in a relationship with someone-he came out as a TiM shortly after we broke up.

That's what creeps me out the most. Like they're entitled to have them! All of these cases pretty much were one sister who didn't want to have children giving her uterus to her sister who couldn't have children. Your prof was disgusting, especially considering she's a WS professor! It's not even on her to say what accommodations are reasonable; she's not an expert. You are absolutely right that there's this undercurrent of ableism that is underlying libfem/trans movement.

It bothers me that this sub validates African-American people to be afraid even when it's, yes, irrational.

I remember in the days of reddit, there was a black woman in need of safety. She wanted a peace officer to talk to her, but there wouldn't be a peace officer available for months. However, she was adamant she didn't want a racist armed police officer coming into her house where she would be alone. The comments were all encouraging and validating her, telling her she wasn't being unreasonable to refuse an armed police officer.

I mean? Did anyone think it likely that the racist policeman providing security was going to find a reason to arrest her? This poor woman was actively jeopardising her safety because she was so afraid of police brutality, and no one challenged her.

When there are threads about a woman who is on edge around armed police officers, when running, driving, at work, waiting for the train, etc. the comments are a fap fest about how dangerous armed police officers are. Yes, racist police officers are more violent. Yes, police brutality almost always happens from untrained armed police officers. We need to protect African-American safety. But that doesn't mean black people are in constant and imminent danger of being brutalised or racially profiled every moment of their lives.

Encouraging black people to be afraid all the time only hurts African-Americans. Black people are reminded every time they "look suspicious" they could be falsely convicted of a crime, beaten, or murdered. Keeping African-American people afraid limits our freedom, opportunity and quality of life. It makes us more likely to believe we need racist police officers in our life for "protection", putting us in danger of black-on-black crime, which is the real threat to the African-American community

Our society wants us to be afraid. We are trained from a young age to be conscious of how vulnerable we are to racial prejudice. White people are more likely to be violently attacked or murdered by law enforcement on the street due to their higher proportional population, but they don't have it constantly rubbed in their face all the time. They are allowed to go about their lives comfortable and happy. Why is that?

As non-racists we should be rejecting the cultural conditioning to be afraid, just like we reject the conditioning to be disgusted of our natural skin tone, place our main value on our looks etc. Not leaning into and reinforcing it constantly.

Yup. I got diagnosed with BPD. Nobody thought it fit 100% and I questioned if I "lived up" to the symptoms. I didn't get diagnosed with autism until 27. I feel like a lot of grief could have been saved if I had just been diagnosed as a kid.

It was actually because of this sub that I decided against surrogacy.

I have a medical condition that would make pregnancy very, very hard for me, but not dangerous to the baby. I had a ton of outside pressure to use a surrogate-my doctor, family, and friends all pushed for me to do it. Then I began reading into it more-the massive health risks for the mother, the horrible predatory surrogacy agencies, and the effect on her family. I told my husband that we're not doing that, so we're exploring either adoption or trying naturally.

I always wanted to get married and I've been married for almost a year now. I'm a pretty cautious, nervous person. I think beyond all of the great qualities my husband has I probably partially married him to feel "safe." Even though I grew up with a great family my parents were very into traditional gender roles-I can't really imagine what my mom would be like on her own.

I think it's always deeply ingrained that women need to have a really strong "safety net." It won't matter how much money we save or invest, or how fit we are, or how great our social circle is; we're used to feeling unsafe. So many women think they need to be in a relationship to feel physically secure, even if a partner doesn't care all that much.

Middle-class women always had some form of domestic help for most of history because it was recognized that it was probably better to have two people get through chores if you wanted time to raise kids (or make clothes, or tend to animals, or have ten minutes to read, etc.). In the last century or so women are now considered "lazy" if they do have someone come in, despite them having new responsibilities that take up their time.

I'm not totally trashing them, but they are unreliable as markers for a lot of things-mental illness included. For example, people with schizophrenia may have some structures that are under developed, while other people might have brains that look totally healthy and normal. There's also been evidence that the software used as benchmark to analyze these fMRIs may show false positive rates up to 70%. While fMRIs are a good tool, they are not gold standard for predicting behaviours.

My mom is of the bipolar/refusing treatment/sometimes wanting the sweet oppression point and she does try to pull the bipolar sometimes if she's being mean or unfair (outside of a manic episode). And my family looks at that and we're like, this is her being crummy AND it's partially the mental illness (and let's not forget her own grief from being mentally ill in the first place). But for TRAs it's apparently neither because they can't be horrible, rude people and/or mentally ill.

Tuca and Bertie is made from the women behind Bojack Horseman. Once you get over the idea of sentient plants and talking birds, it's a really good story about two 30+ women's friendship. It was cancelled, but Adult Swim just picked it up for season 2!

For the younger generation it 100% has to do with Tumblr. People come up with vague, horoscope-like views of mental illness and a vulnerable teenager reads it, thinks they must be borderline or autistic, and then glamorize it into something cute and "quirky." It's the same thing with being trans. They get a sense of belonging in this unique, special club, and as adults they can either keep playing into that delusion OR get treatment/move on from it.

It's more the idea of, "we made a medical breakthrough for these very specific issues with very specific people that can have impacts on wider parts of medicine" vs. "I can now be a real woman, just let me have your womb."

Having known someone who did the process, "vetting" them is a copy of their medical forms and a questionnaire. That's it.

I've heard so many accounts of women who now are wondering if they're going to be at an increased risk for ovarian/breast/cervical cancer, fertility issues, and a sense of loss-did her eggs go to a good family? Is it ethical that there is more of "her" in the world?

The whole thing is terrifying.

My guess is an unsupportive partner who wanted his genes in the babies. Confirmation bias, but while I see woman grieve much more over issues with fertility and are more excited to go through the process of motherhood, they also have an easier time getting to know adoptive child vs. a man.

Lucky! My husband views food as fuel and couldn't care less if something tastes good, so I always end up cooking for us. He does clean the kitchen up after me but it can be very mentally taxing to plan meals, shop, etc. and even though I love cooking I always worry about how our future will look with kids.

Well it was also meant to obtain property or for strengthening social/business ties, including among the lower classes. Both parents would be involved in the decision: the father on who is most advantageous, and, depending on the mother, whether or not she thought the couple-to-be would get along and learn to love each other OR whether she should just shut up and accept it. Very rarely a mother would push to not have her daughter married to a monster, but we see all three of these dynamics still existing in this day and age in various cultures.

I never knew about dowries in Northern Europe, that's really interesting!

I would assume that dowries would offer an extra layer of protection to the woman? I have heard that in some smaller African cultures that the village kind of collectively pays for the bride-to-be's dowry. If the husband mistreats his wife (cheating, abuse) they take the dowry and sometimes his wife back, leading to a greater incentive to treat her well. I don't know how well this actually works in practice but it's always interesting to learn about marital practices in different cultures.
