That makes sense. If it works reliably why change it. I may be wrong, but ive seen that most PCs that drive special purpose devices usually run software ranging from 'not new' to 'old AF'. e.g.

-Saw a piece of military tech once, radar kind of shit. It was running some windows older than WinXP, can't remember exactly but it was windows 2000 iirc. (I don't live in the us btw. This was in 2017)

-My father worked at a cement sheet factory back in 2004-5. There was a weighing bridge over there and the system that handled that ran Windows 95 when all the office computers ran XP. (My own computer ran Windows 98)

-Saw a post on r/justrolledintotheshop where the guy posted his alignment system. It was using a program called Aladin 3 Aligner. Now I can't find info about that software, apparently it comes bundled with hardware but OP said it was old and it looked the part.

I guess the approach towards specialized equipment is 'why fix something that ain't broken?' While in most other places they want to keep patching bugs, security issues and make things better.

Honestly, if Windows works better and is easier to work with, just use it. Why waste time and resources making something that will do the same thing?

It's a big shitfest. If you go to rural parts of India you will find a LOT of caste discrimination. No one dares to voice a complaint and it is only after a big 'incident' that the media and police take heed. Make no mistake, I'm not trying to mask anything - these are crimes against humanity and should be treated as such.

In the cities it is very subtle. Really, most people only care how much money you have. Not to say it doesn't happen, but there is no 'blatant' discrimination. Matter of fact no one who gives two hoots about his or her life/career/character will do it. People won't call castist slurs, no one is 'untouchable', supposedly lower caste children will not be made to sit at the back of the class etc. The only places you see this kind of shit is if you're renting a place or marrying someone. lower caste people have a hard time renting a place as the landlord fears they will fuck the place up and also make it dirty. Intercaste marriage is opposed by both upper and lower castes.

The solution to these problems is so bad it leaves everyone unhappy. Reservations and subsidised fees for lower castes. So called upper caste people have to work very hard to secure an admission in a good college, and then again to pay the fees. I have to pay 1,25,000 rupees for my college per year, some got away with paying 300. (Guess who comprised most of the guys who flunked their first semester exams?)

My mother nearly died while getting 'treated' by an imbecile who just happened to be lower caste so they gave him his medical degree.

If one of the lower castes is underperforming (I.e. being a lazy slob) at a government job you as his senior can NOT write him up/take any action against him. It is an unspoken rule that if you do, they cry casteism and then suddenly you're the one packing your bags.

OTOH none of this reaches even close to the rural areas. Crimes against humanity keep happening, people will not allow lower caste people to get water from public wells but does anything happen? No, because it is easy to write laws and hope it does something, but very hard to see if they're implemented correctly. Hell, I'd say preferential treatment towards the supposed lower castes is fine if something is being done for ACTUAL atrocities that happen. But it doesn't happen, and people on both sides of the caste spectrum suffer in different locatio.

I switched to DDG long back and haven't looked back. Google is a pisspool. If I search for something I want search results, not answers, how hard is that to understand? If you search for something, first thing at the top of results is an 'unfurled' result. This is HORRIBLE because it is always taken out of context. Next comes the 'answers' kind of thing which is also the same thing - taking things out of context, and irrelevant. Somewhere in between are one or two search results. Also, God forbid your query resembles some kind of pop culture thing. then the entire page is only about that. Yes DDG also does that, but everytime I have seen it unfurl results only from Wikipedia and with the article having the exact same name as your query.

After a while, I got the picture: there was some bot who showed some statistic about any account, and apparently bardfinn was upset because the bot was being used by le Nazis to harass him. He wanted the owner to take the bot down unless owner adds an ignore option to the bot - u/polcompbot was the name.

Think about it: a bot which shows info about a user's history and nothing else, being used for harassment! It's like you being harassed by having the nwordcountbot being called on you again and again!

I hate this business model, you "buying" it means it's never on your PC. That means if you want to watch the same movie twice you gotta "download" it twice. Sometimes, or maybe all the time, conditions are less than optimal. So many times I've been stuck with slow 2g internet in a place with scorching heat making me sweat buckets and I just want to know the damn directions to my destination. Google maps has never helped, it's always HERE or OpenStreetMaps. Because Google relies on your data connection to get map data. While it is a smart idea to make sure people are getting the latest maps it's retarded in the sense that it's either the latest maps, or "good luck loser"

Edit: just back from a test that used a Google form. When I logged in they suddenly thought to verify me for no reason at all. Luckily had my phone with me. Otherwise shit would've been tough. Reminds me, was denied access from my account once when I needed it the most. Was appearing for a 5 day long interview/test for joining the army, and my phone was lying face down in a suitcase somewhere. They wanted me to verify on my phone. Keep in mind I have disabled 2fa. I think the people over there want something totally unmoderated. Something which I think is not possible to have in conjugation with good debate/discussion. The amount of trolls, retards, "influencers", spammers, irrelevant posters, false flaggers will easily overwhelm the place. It will become very hard to separate genuine posts from the above-mentioned groups (at least that's what i saw happening on voat when I was there for some time). A very low "signal to noise ratio", if you will. Imo as long as one does not remove opinions and ideas, or certain opinions and ideas which go against the narrative, removing posts and comments is just fine. "Moderating in moderation", if you will.

Yeah I guess. Had a shitty older Chinese Mediatek phone. Was 16-17 at the time with no mobile internet and wanted to hack wifi networks, so used the easiest method to root. an app named Kingroot did it within seconds. The things the phone and i went through... Sigh. good times.

I wonder if it is this easy on desktop distros of linux? It requires a password, yes, but i hope there are no vulnerabilities.
