It seems that the BBC has misunderstood the objection to a tax on the general populace being used to fund vanity projects from a small London clique and are instead proposing ... a mandatory levy upon household services such as broadband or electricity.

Perhaps they have realised how devastating competition would be for them.

Agreed. Not just because of the inherent issue, which is substantial, but also because the Police are never held to account for the action of stopping someone under Schedule 7 - they can't be, the Schedule means they're never required to even say why they stopped someone. It's a license to do whatever the hell they want.

OK, I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure how to address this, then. Your request appears to be to discuss society without discussing people.

Are we just lining up stereotypes, then? I can't see that being particularly productive, but I can't see where else one would be able to take this.

I'm also somewhat confused by "blacks" as a group ... are you of the opinion that white people are equally interchangeable? That there's no difference between, say, an American and a Canadian? Between the Scottish and the English? Between the English and the French? Or is this sort of faceless anonymity something you reserve for black people?

To clarify, I'm not particularly enamoured of Britain First, but it's a good illustration of the state of the UK's terror laws - and their usage by the Police.

To summarise, Golding, on a return from Russia ("Muh Russia!"):

  • Was stopped by the Police under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act;
  • Schedule 7 does not have a "reasonable suspicion" standard - as such the Police aren't required to demonstrate any reason at all for stopping you, not even "I don't like your face";
  • Was required under the terms of Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act to supply PINs for mobile devices;
  • On failure to do so, was charged under Section 7 of the Terrorism Act.

So, just be aware that, just as US Customs, UK airports are a "fuck you" zone when it comes to civil liberties.

Dude, my mother-in-law is an OBE and runs a hospital. She's more "integrated into the culture" than I am.

Also, do you not feel it is a flare-lit tip off that you're asking to discuss the likely success of integration ... while requiring the discussion to quietly not mention any success stories? It could just be really poor phrasing but it comes across like a very agenda-driven post.

I believe it's possible but it's not on the standard contract - you'd need to specifically inform your ISP or be in danger of them pulling the plug on you the moment they found out about it.
