Ok, so I did a rough mock-up with some open source images/icons and a little bit of CSS.

https://imgur.com/a/wwOXLW1 (These screen shots have the page magnified to show the icons better)

The changes I made were:

  • Changed the Insightful and Fun icons to something cleaner and aesthetically similar.

  • The light-bulb (insightful) lights up when it's clicked and the smile (fun) winks when clicked.

  • Both icons turn orange when they are active.

  • Visited links are orange instead of dark blue, this makes it easier to see on the (default) dark theme.

  • Changed the top banner on the homepage to a blurred CC image of a nebula, and made it cover the full width regardless of window size.

This is just a rough proof of concept, but I'm excited to see what people think. I work as a web developer and while I've never touched the saidit or reddit code bases I think I could manage a PR.

Edit: You can try these changes out by applying this CSS as a user style. I used the 'User CSS' browser plugin to do this.

#header{
  background-image:url('http://138.68.219.81/img/saidit/banner.jpg');
  background-size:cover;
}
.arrow.up{
  background-image: url('http://138.68.219.81/img/saidit/light.png');
}
.arrow.upmod{
  background-image: url('http://138.68.219.81/img/saidit/light-set.png');
}
.arrow.down{
  background-image: url('http://138.68.219.81/img/saidit/fun.png');
}
.arrow.downmod{
  background-image: url('http://138.68.219.81/img/saidit/fun-set.png');
}
.thing .title:visited, .thing.visited .title {
  color:#ff7500;
}

The images are temporarily hosted on my personal server.

Reddit admins are apparently removing every thread that mentions the father of the alleged El Paso shooter and his connection with MK Ultra by magnora7 in MeanwhileOnReddit

Assuming MK Ultra is not a real thing that the Reddit admins have some motivation to cover up, why is this actually being censored?

That's a really cool idea and wouldn't be that difficult to implement at all. I'm going to post on askSaidit later about this and I will include a mention of that idea.

Not sure about the validity of this, but that is a really cool idea nonetheless.

I very much am pro-gun, but Trump was never pro-gun in the first place and he never had my vote.

I agree that this is a good amount of feedback. I'm just going to move the discussion to Github now so we can discuss the technical details.

I thought this was pretty relevant and funny. Sounds like it just hit a nerve.

One week ago, a bot my classmate made posted "Trump is a traitor and a piece of shit" on /r/politics and got 89 upvotes. This does not speak well on /r/politics... by happysmash27 in MeanwhileOnReddit

I feel like your post could use some clarification.

What exactly makes this bad? I mean what is the actual difference between a human posting vs a bot written by a human?

Is the problem that it's getting upvoted? If so, are you suggesting it is being upvoted by bots as well?

I could see how comments being artificially upvoted being an issue but if the problem is not that it's being upvoted by bots, then what is the issue?

Additionally, who is to say this isn't happening here on SaidIt? It probably isn't due to the relatively small size of the site at this time but there is nothing stopping it, and it would be very hard to prove that it isn't.

She's 9. No shit. She was probably terrified.

I really don't see how anyone can think this is necessary.
