Hey everyone, hope yall are enjoying your week. This video is a bit of a long one but it covers a lot of ground. The first part of the video is a summer update on the garden and how everything is doing after a wind storm we just had. The second half of the video we go over a few ways how we supplement our chickens here at High Altitude Homesteading. Enjoy :)

Grapes at High Altitudes, will it work? We're going to find out! by astronautrob in Sustainability

Good to know, any info on grapes is much appreciated. Do you grow them where you currently live? I also read they don't like having wet feet which is kind of a problem for us since the soil we grow in is so high in clay. Luckily being in Colorado Springs we don't have a issue with it raining a lot or being damp usually. It's usually too dry here tbh.

So in this video we go over everything dealing with grapes. What types to choose based on your hardiness zone, soil composition, planting techniques, some initial pruning, etc. This is something new for us so we will be learning as we go and making update videos along the way. Wondering if anyone else has any experience doing grapes at higher altitudes? Would be very interested to hear your experience. Thank you.

Hey everyone, this is another video from our urban homestead. In this video we go over the process we are using to attempt to make a self-sustaining food cycle of sorts. It's the first video in a series we'll be making to log our progress with this project. Don't know if anyone is doing anything similar to this, but if so it'd be cool to hear others experience with trying to do something like this. Who knows if this will work, or we'll get anything close to a successfully functioning food cycle, but this is what we have to work with so it's what we're going with. Hope you enjoy and Thanks :)

A couple reasons we like growing potatoes are they seem to be easy to grow and are very hardy. They keep a long time if stored properly and can be a staple food in a survival situation. Other than that, one of the BIGGEST reasons we grow them is to feed our Mealworms. We have a few Mealworm farms going that help feed our chickens, with the ultimate goal being a fully enclosed loop with the potatoes feeding the Mealworms, the Mealworms feeding the Chickens, and the Chickens feeding us. Granted, we can't just eat eggs all day with nothing else, but it would be a big part of our nutrition everyday. We work with what we have :). If yall are interested in what we do with our Mealworms I will do a more in-depth video on that later. Ultimately we want to have our chickens on a free-range, Mealworm, plus Kale and other veggies, type diet. That's the goal, and that's what we're working on.

Kimchi can be slightly intimidating at first, but this recipe is super simple and makes the process a lot easier.

Exemption for natural immunity should 100% be accepted but this shifts the conversation away from whether the mandates for actually legal or not. A conversation of whether of not natural immunity should count as an exemption starts with the acceptance of the mandate in general. That's not something I personally agree with.

So you're calling for censorship because they are breaking the rules. Ok cool, I'm glad we got the semantics out of the way and are calling it for what it is. Again, I don't agree with any form of censorship for any reason. I think that if you build a robust enough community these people can be weeded out. I think that there are other ways of doing things. Improving the block feature, ignoring people, post limits, maybe limiting what sub-saidits they can post in, idk, anything but just outright censorship. I don't agree with the statement that "Ceasing to interact with them won't stop them." It's logical that if everyone, or at least of a majority of us, where to stop engaging with these people, stop talking ABOUT these people/accounts, stop making stupid posts that include their name or even referencing them, if we all blocked them and acted like they didn't exist, etc., they would have nothing to do. These are just people dude, they aren't some paid MOSSAD agent trying to counter your anti-zionist truth talk. They're bored, sad, probably obese, people, probably dudes, who have no life and get kicks from arguing with people on this site. This is their version of fun. I mean that dude socks already said in a comment here that he only keeps talking because people talk back to him, or something similar. Trolls troll, it's nature man.

Anyway, to not try something like blocking them or just ignoring them and stop engaging, and then to try and say that it won't work is silly. Have you tried blocking them? Have you tried to just not engage and encourage other people not engage? Idk bro, try that shit and see if it works before discounting it. Trying to drape yourself in some cloak of virtue by saying you're trying to save saidit from becoming some internet ghetto is silly too. Just chill man, saidit is fine. These people are not the bulk of what people see on saidit. Hell, I didn't even know who these people where till you posted this stupid thread. And that's what I'm saying, you're bringing attention to it when you could just ignore it.

Are they really disrupting and delegitimizing saidit? lol, Really? Don't you think that's a bit dramatic? Again, I don't know if a lot of people even know who these people are. Saidit seems to have a small group of people who are VERY active, overly active IMO, on this site. I think people who come and lurk, or just like myself contribute sometimes, been on here a long time, but don't get into the drama, don't give a fuck about these people but do give a fuck about keeping saidit a place for free speech and free of censorship. TBH the incessant jew shit or the "oh my god the white race is being killed" or w.e shit, is much more annoying then someone trolling. And I see way more of that stuff on the front page now a days then anything posted from this socks person or whoever the other person is. But hey this is saidit, people do what they do and that's what makes it great. Hell, we can have a sub-saidit called "debatealtright" that isn't about debate at all, it's just a place for white supremacist to have a circle jerk party. Look, saidit is filled with a lot of different people and yes some can be trolls, but lets not get too dramatic. These people are trolls and we should have a better way of dealing with trolls then to simply to censor them. If we can set a good precedent now, and find a better way of dealing with trolls and other similar issues, then it is way less likely that it will be abused in the future. And if some authority does try to abuse it, it will be easier to spot. Just censoring them sets a precedence that can be easily abused by any authority in the future.

[–]astronautrob 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

The idea that Saidit needs to be "saved" is not something I subscribe to so I can't answer that question. Saidit seems fine to me. The front page is relatively clean, diverse sub-saidits represented, not a lot of stuff I'd consider straight up spam, w.e, etc. It's certainly a lot better than it was a couple months ago when it seemed like other people where in charge (Ironleft gang or w.e). I mean weren't they trying to ban you or someone else for the same things? Granted they maybe didn't change the rules (Idk I didn't pay that much attention) but they seemed to reinterpret the rules so they could ban people because they were "breaking the rules". So it's funny that you try to discredit the idea of someone taking over saidit, because that's pretty much exactly what happened in that situation. Maybe it wasn't that overt but one group did get a lot of sway here on saidit, isn't that right? I mean come on that happened don't try and act like it's crazy to suggest it happening again and even on a bigger scale. It's not about being flexible for anyone, it's about enforcing censorship for any reason at all. I don't support censorship, or rules that try and enforce censorship, w.e you want to say. You can say I'm confusing censorship with any Orwellian term you like, but again that's just semantics. Banning = censorship, period.

You think socks is A.I.? Or some paid shill from some three letter company? Maybe, but it also might be that it's a person who leads a sad and boring life while getting dopamine hits from arguing with people on a semi (maybe?) popular website and if y'all didn't engage him/her, they would have nothing to do. The fact that you don't have the self control to just not engage with an individual is childish. Trying to use an excuse like the block feature doesn't work, or is "incomplete", is silly. You have the ability to ignore someone if you want, it just takes a little self control.

I don't agree with that statement at all. There's a big difference between someone acting dumb and someone being dumb, but it's a waste of time to argue this with you. You can equate the two if you like but I don't. I think you're smart enough to see the difference but you just want to be difficult to make an argument.

I was very careful to make my point clear that I think Jason is acting silly in this situation, not that I think he is overall a dumb person. Just because you find that you can not make that distinction "in real life" doesn't mean all of us work with that narrow of a mindset. I say what I mean and mean what I said. Jason is acting dumb in this situation. In past situations and interactions I've had with him or seen him in, he seemed to be "smart" or carry himself well. So because you acted "smart" in my opinion in these other situations I consider him a smart person. I still think he's an intelligent person. I think his personal vendetta is getting in the way of his "smartness" and thus he is ACTING dumb. Is it that hard for you to understand the difference? I tried to make it a little less "technical" so maybe you would get it. I mean that seems pretty straight forward and you seem like a fairly intelligent person. I've already stated my idea for preventing this behavior. You stop engaging with the person, block them, and if enough people do that the person would have no one to engage with. The fact that all these people keep engaging with sock or whoever else gives them legitimacy. Are you really telling me people are not adult enough to block users or ignore users? People like Jason or whoever are UNABLE to not engage with these people so instead they want to ban them? Again, if we set the precedent that banning people is what happens when you don't "follow the rules", then that precedent will stay when the rules change. And what happens then? What happens when someone takes over reddit who doesn't share our values? You get where I'm coming from? Censorship is bad for whatever reason, we should try to think of better ways to deal with these kinds of things. But the VERY FIRST thing I would say is that these people, Jason and whoever is complaining about these people, need to block these people and STOP ENGAGING WITH THEM. It's silly they don't have the self control to not engage these people. It's childish. This site seems pretty small, if the "power users" or w.e were to all stop engaging with these people they would have no one to argue with, they would become bored (like the children they are), and they would move on. It's really simple. To act dramatic like these people would someone take down the site or turn it in to a "internet ghetto" is silly. Idt saitit is trying to be the beverly hills on the internet but a couple of shitty trolls is not going to turn it in to a ghetto either.

Honestly though I wish you guys would stop playing with semantics and speak the fucking truth. Banning = censorship no matter who much linguistic gymnastics you want to play. Idk why you guys are defending yourselfs so hard. Like why can't you say "yes the rules call for censorship (or banning) if you break the rules, these people are breaking the rules, we are calling for their censorship." Isn't that easy?

Again I don't understand how I was calling him dumb. I said "We both know your (you're) smarter than that." That's saying you and I both know you are smarter than how you are acting, i.e. you are smart but you may be acting below your intelligence level at this time or concerning this subject, etc. That's not the same thing as saying someone is dumb. You could say it's the same thing as saying someone is ACTING dumb but that isn't the same as saying some one IS dumb. So no I wasn't saying he is dumb, I've engaged with Jason's content and contributions to this site for years. He's always seemed like a good guy to me so when he starts calling for censorship I felt the need to call him out. I was on my phone so yes it did auto-correct to your instead of you're, but come on man Nazi much? It's not even a good contribution to the conversation, it's just being a troll. Anyway, try to correctly represent what people actually say in the future before calling them out because it was obvious that I was (and still am) saying he is ACTING dumb, not that he IS dumb. It's called nuance my friend. I know it's a lost art on the internets but lets try and be better people, what do you say?

Dude if you want censor people ok but stop arguing about the semantics to try and make yourself feel better. Banning = censorship, no matter the reasoning. Also the whole pulling out a piece of the response instead of responding to the whole post is trollish. I did say something about the block feature. I said in my opinion, along with a few others on this thread, seem to think the block feature works fine. To say it's incomplete is silly. When I blocked theameliamay or w.e the fuck his/her name is all it's shit went away. That doesn't seem incomplete to me. You can ignore people without blocking them, yes, but you don't seem to have that ability. If you feel it's incomplete let's works to make it better instead of censoring people. There are always other ways. Also try not to respond twice before I get to answer one retort it makes for a really bad discussion. &Really my friend, just try getting off the computer for a little bit and being in the real world I promise you this stuff won't mean as much.

Are you really going to say that if someone breaks a rule then banning them from a platform, or anything at all, is not the same as censorship? So if you break rules on YouTube or Reddit or any other platform and they ban you, do you not consider that censorship? I really would like to know where you stand on this. If it is a yes and you do think platforms should have the ability to censor people if they break a rule does the same apply for everyday life in your belief? People who break societal rules, should they be banned from society (so to speak)? I'm not trying to troll here I would like to know your belief on this. This is what is happening in our society today, people wanting other people "banned" from society for not following the rules, a.k.a not getting the shot, not wearing a mask, etc. These are rules that are set or being set, should it be ok for people to be ostracized or banned from society because they didn't follow those rules? I'm in no way saying it's left or right, when I say the other side I'm not speaking in political terms I'm speaking strictly in a one side versus the other side no matter the context. What you do to the one side can be done to both, that's all I'm saying. So if we start banning people because they are "breaking the rules", instead of taking another avenue, then what happens when someone takes over saidit and makes new rules? The precedent is already set that we ban people who don't follow the rules. That precedent will stay even if the rules change. You see what I'm saying? Censorship is never the answer no matter the reasoning.

Ah man Jason you make me giggles. Acting like someone doesn't understand, shame shame, hahaha, just like the children on the other side. Man really expected better from you than a retort that I didn't get your point. Banning, getting rid, etc., these are euphemisms for censorship whatever rational you want to put after that statement. The block function works pretty good as a couple other people have said in this thread already. The fact that you choose not to use it is your choice, a poor one in my opinion but your choice none the less. Idk did I miss something or I thought once dr3 or w.e took back over he said he wasn't too keen on the pyramid of debate or these "rules". Eh, maybe he's changed his tune which would be a bummer. Either way crying about some rules and people breaking them makes you sound like a child sorry dude. Just grow up, get off the computer for a little bit, and ignore these people. And please try blocking them, it really does help. Banning = censorship PERIOD. W.e rationale or reasoning you want to put after that doesn't take a away from that fact. You want to censor people for breaking rules? Ok cool but call it like it is, it's fucking censorship and you're prompting it. Fuck off with this "shame you missed my point shit" bro, we both know your smarter than that. Call it for what it is, censorship, for whatever reasons IDC but speak the truth my friend.

Man sad to see you on the censorship train Jason, I had a higher opinion of you. Banning = censorship, period. To make some argument we need to protect new members or w.e is silly. We are all adults, people can block users if they choose, it's really easy. I think anyone coming to this site has a fairly thick skin and if not again these people are adults we don't need to treat them like snowflakes. A top down approach is never the answer. If everyone blocked these people then they would have no one to interact with right? That would be more organic and more in line with what I believe saidit is trying to be. I respect you man, I usually like your contributions to this site, but this is not one of them. This fake drama, this talk of banning, is a waste of time. You and anyone else can stop interacting with these people, stop seeing what they say, etc., with one click. Instead you want big Daddy to ban them? Come on man grow up, let's be adults here. We can shun these people and make them irrelevant without involving daddy saidit. Let's try it at least before running to Mommy and Daddy.

Agreed, and eventually you probably won't even get to the credit card machine once the devices that scan for vaccination compliance and control whether the automatic doors open or not to let you in the store are installed. The only way is to become more self sufficient and not to rely on these systems that can be used to make us take this shot.

Similar low quality content posts on a single sub constitutes spam to me. If my understanding is wrong then maybe a mod will correct me, idk. Really even calling this posts jokes is a stretch. It's just low quality and when I see 3 "jokes"posted by the same person in the same sub that seems like spam. Do you not agree? &Idk what karma constitutes my friend but if you have more than im happy for you. I hope it translates to less karma in the real world. Time on the site does matter because saidit used to be different and I think that's what we are trying to get it back too. If you weren't around here a 1-2yr or so ago you wouldn't know that. Is the patronizing to say that? Does the amount of karma change that?

Similar low content posts to the same sub would be considered spam, yes? You had two or three "jokes" posted already on the sub by early morning so to me that constitutes spam. I don't give two shits about the pyramid or w.e, but when someone is spamming low content anything, whether that be dick enhancers or "jokes", it's still spam. Doesn't have to be a bot, it's usually someone with too much time on their hands. Anyway, that's my understanding of spam, you don't feel the same? &The dramatics are a bit over the top my friend, this thread is less than 48hrs old no one is "going on" about anything. I'm responding to your comments as a usual conversation would proceed. Are you able to speak in a civil manner on this subject?

Are we suppose to just mute subs now instead of reporting spam? Funny, I thought we were all trying to make the site better by cleaning up the spam not just muting subs. You haven't been on saidit for very long so maybe you don't understand what we're trying to do here. Spend a little more time around here my friend, we're trying to clean up the site not just mute subs and allow the spam to continue. Do you understand that?

Why is this always the stock answer for anyone posting spam type posts? It's laughable. So you can post spam and instead of people reporting it you want them just to mute the sub? I've been on saidit for a long time I understand how the mute sub option works but thank you for the reminder. I'll keep reporting things I believe are spam instead of just muting subs because that's what d3 has asked us to do, right? I'm just wondering why a semi mod would be posting spam type posts instead of fighting against it like we're supposed to do. Should we just tell everyone to mute subs instead of report spam?

Has anyone been made to take the vaccine yet for work? by Jesus-Christ in AskSaidIt

[–]astronautrob 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

All the schools here in Colorado are requiring it to enroll in classes next semester. Crazy to think access to higher education is going to be dependent on a mandatory medical procedure. Anyone who wants to compare this shot to other vaccines is just being silly at this point. Luckily I graduated last semester so dodged that bullet. The Mrs. is a Dr. who works around tons of people but has not been forced to take the shot yet either. Her work has offered "Free vaccinations", and the announcement they sent out for the event sounded more like they were telling people to get it and not asking, but she just denied it and has not heard anything since. Passports are for sure coming, that seems to obvious. I think international travel will also be off the board completely for the unvaccinated, as it already is in most countries. It will take time for the to tighten the noose but it is slowly tightening. The silver lining is, at least in my opinion, is if you can keep working to pull yourself out of the tangles of society, become more self sufficient, etc.,etc., then at a certain point there is really nothing they can take from you. I don't think this is going to come to a door-to-door campaign, I think this is more of a cast a wider and wider net to keep getting people to take the shot kind of strategy. If you can keep removing yourself and becoming more self reliant, building that community, finding like minded people, etc., then when the day comes that you have to show your papers to the scanner that opens the automatic doors to the grocery store to get in to buy food, you can still survive. Because that's ultimately what it's going to come to. First it will be travel, then school, then jobs, then x,y,z, till eventually you can't get food or water without having your passport. Don't panic but get prepared.

How would someone prevent people from arguing or fighting? You could create a website that's a giant echochamber so everyone agrees and never debates, but if you have debate you will inevitably have arguments. That's pretty obvious and to think that you can eliminate that is retarded. Why is people arguing even a bad thing? People can have arguments and still be civil. The core site on here is fine, the people are fine, it's the idiots who like you have only been on saitit for one day or one year and think they know anything about it.

Man sad to see this fake drama fake ruin something good. It really is disgusting what has gone on with this site and the people who now seem to influence it the most. Seems like the people who are "saving it" and destroying it are one in the same. It's also really sad how all these people only have been here the last year or so. Such a quick downturn, man....anyway I wish everyone the best of luck if you've been on saidit for more than a year or two, if not fuck off you're probably part of the problem. This site used to be something special and I can still remember magnora's podcast interview on THC and what he said. It's too bad he let it go in dumps but this pity party of woe is me I have to run a website is garbage. Everyone wants to be a victim these days I suppose. Man, but have you guys ever really experienced real hardship? Doesn't seem like it. Seems like a bunch of complaining to me. Eh, not my place to judge I suppose. Anyway, again wish all the best of luck much love guys.

But you're not quitting saidit, which is what you put in the title. Judging from the frequency of your comments you don't seem to be taking any different action. Is it demotivational to point out something objective like, "Hey your titled clearly said one thing but that clearly isn't what you are saying in your actual post?" Is that called gaslighting or something? Either way, clickbait sucks and I don't know if it's necessarily required for self-promotion. Do what you do though my brother, I hope it works out for you. Yea this site has turned in to a pre-teen drama. It's tired. I maybe hit this site one or twice a week. It hardly has any relevant information on it. Most of the stuff is either about saidit or about reddit, how bad or good one or the other is. What transphopic thing was or wasn't said. There no news other than highly polerized political crap and the discussions are the same. It's sad. I remember when magnora7 was on THC. I had so much hope for this website. A place we could really speak our truth. Look how laughable that is now.

Looks like everything is removed when I click that link. This site has been going downhill for awhile. People say "make the site what you want" blah blah blah, but these people who are active it seems like just cause they have different viewpoints they are getting singled out. Jason was an active dude, granted his stuff wasn't always what I agreed with or thought relevant but the point is he was trying. Its sad to see a "free speech" website being so heavily moderated at this point. And honestly this crap is boring it's like a fake TV drama or some shit. Like don't you people have lives outside this website? This crap is getting lame. The only things on the front page are adds and products. There is hardly even any relevant info on this site anymore it's all spam and you can dudes who are posting original content? It's laughable. The gme ship has sailed. Investing in stocks that actually have potential instead of this magical short is a better idea imo. I hear what Gill is saying with it possibly turning the company around but gme won't ever get as high as it was unless the short happens again, which I don't see happening. Never know though. That being said Gill seems to be a legit dude. & This is not financial advice or anything but when stuff like that has already been in the consensus media for awhile it's usually a bust at that point. But funny to see this on saidit, idk if you'll get the same blind support you here that you see on Reddit tho. A little less cultish around these parts my friend. Sorry for some reason I can't find the episode number. My feelings are she has a really good take on what's going on &explains it well which is the biggest thing because what these people are talking about (she's not the only one) is confusing to me at least.

They might not be as blatant but in the end the result would be the same. They would of came up with another excuse, something else would of happened, another false flag, etc., that would of gave them a reason to do exactly the same things they are doing now. Demonizing the other side to legitimize something is not new. The only thing that's new that instead of fighting "terrorist" overseas it's fighting "domestic terrorism". Which again we all saw coming and had nothing to do with Donald being president.

Terrible analogy and misses the point. To think that this "insane" lockdown is because of Donald means that otherwise you weren't expecting it. It is true that insane and unexpected are not the same by definition, I'll give you that, but the way OP and many others on this site are acting like this is because on Donald means it is unexpected for them. Hell they thought Donald was going to win and on top of that they thought it would have made a difference. So for those people it is unexpected no matter what words they want to put to it.
