It is so clear to me that so many straight people in the LGBTQ movement see "gay" not as a sexual orientation, but as a desirable aesthetic-- a set of trendy habits, a haircut, a certain style of clothes and mannerisms, which bestow virtue upon the posturer.

So basically same goes for queer. I noticed that it's more like a subculture than just being gay, bi or even asexual. Certain behaviors or way of clothing tends to be associated with being queer. So often that behavior can be described as childish and that's one of the things making me uncomfortable in such places. I am a grown person, not a teenager. Colorful hair with awful haircut is other thing. To be fair I prefer to look the opposite way to queer lol. So I look "straight." That reminds me how some kweers cry about the idea of not being seen as "queer enough." What the fuck does it even mean?

I feel bad for actual trans men when it comes to that. If I saw a short man with these mastectomy scars I'd not immediately think that's a trans man. But ever since these scars are basically glorified with Tumblr/Twitter artists giving them to every male character they draw then it's so easy to tell now. I hate these arts because they clearly draw a biological man but with these scars. Trans men rarely look like this. Their shoulders aren't broad and hips narrow. And their voices also are like on helium... And they're usually quite short. Misinformation is insane.

I definitely agree that the whole "romantic asexual" thing might be just a platonic bond but since people don't take friendships seriously even if such bonds can be as strong and a "breakup" hurts as much too, then they prefer to call it romantic so it could be seen as more significant.

If that's the case it's definitely rather sad, not gonna lie. I can form really strong platonic bonds (friendships) but since it's not romantic in the actual sense (lacks sexual component) then it isn't seen as important by society even if it is important for me. It is seen as okay to end or neglect such a relationship for the sake of romantic one because it's seen as higher priority.

So I can see why ace community is clingy towards using that wording. Even if it's technically wrong.

I also agree with the other subgroup of "romantic asexuals." I overall have the impression asexual label truly attracts confused people (or spicy straights) but since this is a some kind of entry to LGBT community as a whole then maybe with time they will grow more comfortable with being just gay or bi by observing others who are gay or bi there.

LGBTQ+ community is mostly a bunch of people, who actually don't have much in common besides for being a bit different. Trans people have so completely different stuff going on than gay or bi people. Asexual people are also different than gay or bi people - in such a space they wouldn't like to talk about sex in theory, right?

[–]INeedSomeTime 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

According to this form of classification I am aromantic and asexual (so technically your stereotypical asexual) so I may not be able to answer that too well. I think the difference between sexless romance and friendship is a bit blurry. I guess you wouldn't kiss a friend though. Might be that asexual simply says they're comfortable with doing stuff like kissing with both sexes. Some only feel comfortable with doing it with the same sex as them or as the opposite one.

Since I am super clueless about romance and sex (I mean, not surprising lol) then I am not gonna try engaging in a discussion about romantic attraction. Traditionally romantic attraction is understood as platonic attraction and sexual attraction. In asexual community they define it as... platonic attraction with some extra but not sexual stuff? I mean I am not gonna critize it because it's not rare to find the same word meaning a bit different things depending on the place/context/culture. So I don't think it's a stretch that romantic attraction understood by asexuals will be different than romantic attraction defined by the rest of society. It even shows some of these fundamental differences between actual asexuals and the rest of population I assume.

But this is where I think the whole split attraction model should be used exclusively by asexuals. Because asexual romantic attraction(platonic+nonsexual extra) is different from typical romantic attraction (platonic+sexual).

Emotional connection without sexual attraction is called a friendship, you fucking morons. It enrages me to see this blatantly homophobic and sexist drivel being spread because it pressures lesbian women to say and believe that they are bisexual, when they are not. This is exactly what happened to me when I was younger. And it is harmful for both lesbian and bisexual women. Meanwhile, equally clueless people in academia completely neglect to mention this phenomenon of lesbian women being pressured to self-identify as bisexual, and instead like to claim bullshit like "wOmEn aRe nAtUrAlLy bIsExUaL!1!" (edit: looking at you, Michael Bailey)

Yup I totally agree. I honestly think the whole stuff with biromantic, aromantic, homoromantic crap should be a thing exclusively used by asexuals. Using it outside of asexual community should be called a misuse and a mean of confusing people, who try to get more comfortable with being fully gay or bi.

To be fair she is a very decent person aside from that and her "beliefs" make me sad more than infuriated because she overall has this kind of personally in which tries very hard to be a people pleaser and is afraid to confront anyone. It's clear to me she was exposed to a group which shared that belief and brainwashed her into believing it that. It's super sad and harmful though and makes me mad how this whole movement takes advantage of people like her, who are afraid to question or stand up for themselves. Hell, even I prefer to be anonymous when I come here - because the consequences can get this bad. So I am more pissed off at the whole TQ+ movement which made her have so messed up takes on her sexuality. And I will not reveal more personal stuff about her but that combo of prefering dicks but as long as they are "on women" and some stuff she experienced in real life with men, makes me believe she may be bisexual but due to past experiences she doesn't want to ever try anything with men as long as they pretend to be ladies. Because of course she believes a transwoman is just like normal woman.

Anyway I think a lot of handmaidens of the TQ+ movement are also people who ended up coerced to preach the gospel. It takes advantage of vulnerable people... but to be fair that’s not that surprising. It takes advange of vulnerability of being a minority so much that it’s disgusting.

I got fed up with mainstream asexual spaces years ago. You'd think you will see people having discussion about actual asexuality - what makes us different to the rest to the world, what doesn't, what are the common experiences we don't relate to, how we want to navigate the world as asexuals etc. Well no. You so often so people being like: "How often do you guys masturbate?" "What kinks do you have?" "How often do you have sex?" "Is it OK for me to be in this space if I am ace who has sex everyday with my partner but just recently realized I may be ace but love sex?" "What kinds of porn do you watch?" Or some random posts like: "Remember you're valid if you're an asexual who is addicted to porn/is hypersexual/has kinks/has sex everyday/loves sex."

I got so fed up one day and unsubbed from all the "ace" subs on Reddit and muted tags and words associated with asexuality on other social media. Kinda sad but it saved me some sanity. I guess I can slightly relate to you guys when I see similar "activism" with posts/randos preaching how as a lesbian you have to love the dick if it's attached to a "woman" or as a gay man you gotta love pussy if it's attached to a "man".

I think the whole LGBTQWTF+ is all over the place for everyone. Even for actual trans people who don't subscribe to any of that bullshit.

"LGBT label shopping" on Tumblr (I think I didn't really have Tumblr account back then and on different socials LGBT was mostly about gay/bi people then).

But I see that I am spared this weird, creepy expectation to be down for a trans person no matter if you're gay, bi or straight. I have a friend who says she's a lesbian but has a... bigger preference for dicks. I don't have any comments. She is super brainwashed in that regards that I am a bit sad for her.

Honestly I hate how greysexuality/demisexuality are put together with asexuality. One implies the person will be still down for something but after a while, the other one will be never down for anything. And this way a straight woman who just needs a bit more time to fuck can claim to be "queer."

And even then I don't view either as queer. I don't feel persecuted for asexuality like gay/bi people do. I have other issues though, as I gotta organize my life a bit differently than average straight person. In a way I gotta find another asexual like me to be comparible and have a relationship where we both are happy. Not one where one is prevented from having their natural needs met because of me.

I overall don't like the word queer at this point. I associate Queer with the idea of a subculture, cultural appropriation and LGB tourism by straight people. To me queer means a poser, lol.

Ah yes, genitals, reproductive systems, musculoskeletal structures, pfft that shit is so easy to change, we're like Mr. Potato Heads, really. BUT MY DESIRE TO WEAR PRETTY DRESSES WAS DECIDED BY THE GODS THEMSELVES.

At this point transgenderism is truly like religion and you can't convince me otherwise. It's ridiculous to reject the objective reality but consider your beliefs to be something what is before the objective evidences. It's the same logic you see in religious people. For example Christians who reject evidences of evolution or that the world is older than 2 thousands years old because their beliefs matter more.

And science doesn't really back up gender identity - to be clear, there is just no actual concepts made around it yet - it only exists as a discourse among activists. There is no coherent definition of this concept while you can actually find various empirical definitions for concepts which are also psychological like - intelligence, emotions, personality etc. These tend to be understood slightly differently between professionals but even these different understandings tend to be coherent on their own. Because of the fact they could be conceptualized and professionals could create tools to measure them!

Meanwhile with gender identity? It's always described in a terribly vague way. Scientific concepts shouldn't be vague and up to someone's interpretation. They should be clear cut so anyone, who learns the definition can understand it in the same way.

Imagine trying to create a tool to measure gender identity like you have such ones for personality or intelligence. That's impossible to make without bringing up gender stereotypes. But since out TRAs insist gender identity is detached from gender stereotypes or anything social, then imagine conceptualizing that. How do you wanna measure it? Since you can't, then to me it feels like gender identity is more like a name you choose for yourself or someone. With new sets of pronouns, new name etc it really feels like gender identity is a "complex name" you attach to yourself.

Sorry I just can't. If discussion around transgenderism was based on acknowledging your biological sex but also acknowledging that in your mind you feel comfortable more as the opposite of your sex (because of severe distress aka gender dysphoria) then I think there would be no need for this sub even.

I guess it's nothing new that the queer or LGBTQWERTY label is just the "cool" label. Why is everyone so desperate to belong there even if they find a name for their obscure sexual preferences? Because they don't wanna be a "normie". It's not "cool" to be a "normie". As an anti-conformist person I tend to be angry I am not a straight person among the rest of my "queer" friends. And in creative works, unlike the others, I refuse to make everything "queer" or at least outright "queer" and I just make characters who may happen to be not straight people but it's usually not relevant and I don't shower them in colorful flags and pronouns. But I genuinely feel more original when I make very normie aka straight and non-trans characters' stories even if it may sound funny. God, I had to let it out.

I feel so much the point number 3. I had a friend suddenly realizing she is a "demigirl" but that's it to it. Just some laughable addition of "they" to pronouns list. I hope she will snap out of it. But besides for that she doesn't make a big deal out of it. She's rather very socially awkward and I'd say what she interprets as "not wanting to be seen as a woman by strangers" is the social awkwardness, boyish interests and shy personality she has. Basically being a "they" is her protective shield. It still fucking hurts to see even if technically nothing really changed.

I do believe there are people who experience gender dysphoria and they deserve help but more options should be explored for them. Activists cannot stomach this.

I feel like some of the proclaimed asexuals or aromantics are socially awkward people, who just never dated or fucked despite having a desire for it. It's a key to point it out they have a desire for these because they often even say that they love to fantasy about dating or sex but as they say they don't want to see themselves involved in the acts or they even imagine themselves in such scenarios. Meanwhile I just have no desire whatsoever. I don’t care.

I think there is a raise of awareness there is such a thing as asexuality but alongside that you have a lot of socially awkward or traumatized people identifying as such. But they discover a bit later they aren't asexual.... or they water-down the term to the point it's mind-boggling, just to keep the queer label.

[–]INeedSomeTime 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I only expect to certainly lose friends I have if I shared my actual views on the current trans issue. It's not all negative towards trans people themselves. I'd say I hold a nuanced view on it where I differentiate between people, who you could call "genuinely trans" with severe gender dysphoria resistant to any interventions than just transitioning. But I cannot treat "trans/non-binary" people who have no dysphoria or just social dysphoria (which to me is very fucking normal) seriously and I find indulging their "identity" as actually harmful. So it pains me to have a friend with "they" pronouns and refer to her as such. I hate to indulge someone in avoidance of an issue she should face - sexism, misogyny etc. and pretend somehow she is suddenly above these once she declared having "they" pronouns. Today's trans activists claim how transgender is not mental illness but to me transgender identification (which is not caused by actual clinical gender dysphoria) can induce it. This is why I feel strong uneasiness with indulging proclaimed non-binary people or non-binary characters, which are being made nowadays. I view them as confused, disturbed people, who use depersonalization from their gender as unhealthy coping mechanism.

TQ+s are trying to redefine homosexuality to fit the opposite sex

I think they do it with literally any word in the acronym. It even includes transsexualism. It used to be a rare condition with a set of severe symptoms, which were treated with transition (because they were so severe and nothing could help them). Now it's a washed out term which includes also girls with "not like the other girls" syndrome, who don't feel any distress about their bodies nor presenting feminine.

TQ+ is watering down any term, so average "cishet" can be a part of the "LGBTQ+" community.
