Generally speaking and from police reports from criminals caught in the act they don't have guns by choice, first is it's a Petty theft is a misdemeanor crime the penalties for committing petty theft are: Up to 6 months in county jail. But with a weapon it's far worse.

I've seen a fair number of criminals shoot at the police over traffic tickets. They're not all that dumb, but it only takes one like that to ruin your day.

It's possible the demographics of Catalytic Converter Thieves are different from standard criminals

What was there criminal records, most if not all petty theft criminals never carry weapons, criminals you "seen" are the ones with rape, assault, battery, terrorism, arson, domestic violence, gang violence, and kidnapping records and have spent 2 + years in prison.

And the Catalytic Converter Thieves are different from standard criminals, is either wishing and or guessing.

I rarely use youtube now that I'm banned, but there's a channel called Police Activity that's pretty good for that kind of thing. A close competitor is something like Video Leak Police.

It's mainly blacks acting that way, but mexican gang bangers do too. Given this guy saying all the suspects were White, he was probably in little danger, but not 'no danger'.

And the Catalytic Converter Thieves are different from standard criminals, is either wishing and or guessing.

They're definitely in the subset of criminals who carry power tools to commit their crimes. Harvesting expensive car parts from cars parked in public is a pretty specific type of crime, but sure, I was just speculating whether this appeals to certain demographics.
