People just use a smaller variety of sites. And people stay with bad sites simply because that's where everyone else already is. Bad things remain popular simply because they're popular. People need to branch out more to make the internet "bigger". This is a problem of the users, but also a problem with how google prioritizes search results now as compared to 15 years ago
