MATTHEW 1:1 The book of the words [and deeds] of Jesus Christ.

3:1 the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah, and he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching 2 and saying “Repent, for the kingdom of YHWH is at hand,” 3 so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the YHWH.’” 5 Great crowds of disciples went to him from Judah and from Jerusalem. 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Root of vipers! Who told you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bear fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think, ‘Our father is Abraham,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up his son Abraham. 10 And already the axe is at to the root of the trees, and every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and burned in fire.

LUKE 3:10 And the crowds asked him, “If so what shall we do?” And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none.” And the people came to be baptized. 14 Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.”

MATTHEW 3:13 And it happened in those days that Jesus came from Galilee along the Jordan and was baptized. 16 And the heavens were opened [to him], and he saw the holy Spirit descending like a dove and it became upon him; 17 and a voice from heaven said, “You are my son; today I have fathered you.”

4:12 And it happened in those days that he heard that John had been arrested, so he withdrew into Galilee. 13 And he went and lived in Capernaum [by the end of the land of Zebulun [and Naphtali]], 14 so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: 15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— 16 the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” 17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of YHWH is at hand.”

23 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. 24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. 25 And great crowds followed him from Galilee, and from Judah and Jerusalem, and from beyond the Jordan.

5:1 At that time he saw the crowds, so he went up the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.

2 And he opened his mouth and spoke to them, saying:

3 “Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of YHWH.

6 “Blessed are those who hunger, for they shall be satisfied.

4 “Blessed are those who cry, for they shall laugh.

11 “Blessed are you when the sons of man persecute you and revile you and utter [all kinds of] evil against you on account of the son of man. 12 Rejoice on that day and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

LUKE 6:24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.

25 “Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry.

“Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.

26 “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so those before you did to the false prophets.

MATTHEW 5:38 At that time Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said [to those who were before you], ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. To the one who slaps you on the cheek, offer the other also, 40 and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. 42 Give to the one who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back.

43 At that time Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said [to those who were before you], ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of the Most High, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 Be merciful, as your Father is merciful.

7:1 At that time Jesus said to his disciples: “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

3 [At that time Jesus said to his disciples:] Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brotherrother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye.

12 At that time Jesus said to his disciples: “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

18 [At that time Jesus said to his disciples:] “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, 16 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush.

21 [At that time Jesus said to his disciples:] “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? 24 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. 25 And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 26 But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. 27 When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

28 And when Jesus finished these sayings to those who were listening, 8:5 he entered Capernaum. A centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, 6 “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” 7 And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith. 13 [And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.”] And the servant was healed at that very moment. 16 That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” LUKE 7:17 And a report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.

MATTHEW 11:2 Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples 3 and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” 4 And Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. 6 And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.”

7 As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 8 What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. 9 What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’ 11a Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist.

16 “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their playmates, 17 “‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her children.”

8:19 And a scribe came up and said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 21 Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, leave me to go and bury my father.” 22 And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead. LUKE 9:61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but leave me to leave those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and leaves is fit for the kingdom of YHWH.”

MATTHEW 9:37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. 10:16 Go your way.
