Archaeology like other fields within academia is fossilized but their biggest shortcoming is that when those outside the field, like Hancock, offer new and exciting theories, they reject them immediately because they feel threatened. Many in academia are petty enough to do this.

Oh, Hancock does bother to do his research. Each of his books has voluminous footnotes. Most academics spend much more time defending their fiefdoms than doing research. Besides the hard sciences, and archaeology is not one of those, most of academia is a large steaming pile of dinosaur dung.
