I think it's an amazing idea, just not used properly, by users or by Twitter admin.

A single, high fidelity, distribution service that puts out publicly facing content.

I don't need to visit every individual site/creator I like to keep up with, it comes to a single feed and I just follow each account individually. (RSS obviously does this much better)

For when I don't want to follow an account, it's easy enough for me to check the account manually for updates (like, "Why is my online banking not working?" Go check the bank's Twitter feed for explanation). I don't have to dig through their press releases in their site, they don't have to update a whole webpage for temporarily relevant information.
