Fun fact: Jim Jones was a socialist. He wanted to flee with his people to the Soviet Union. The precipitating event that caused the mass suicide was the communists refusing to send airliners to conduct an airlift to Russia.

It's on the tapes they made before and during. They talk openly about it. People from the Soviet embassy had been to Jonestown to teach Russian language.
