No, that is not entirely true.

Could you say the same thing about a typical lesbian? Could you say to her that if a man's penis in general offends you maybe you are suppressing feelings that she has for a man's penis?

No, that is not entirely true.

What's true is homophobia is associated with homosexual arousal. Psychologically is makes sense. There's no reason to be upset by what other people are doing in the bedroom of their own home. But if you feel threatened by your own responses, then you get the dissonance that expresses as intolerance.
