There is no way that vaping is more harmful than sucking in the products of a literal fire. It may be bad for you but it is better than the alternative. Tabacco companies are known for their propaganda.

Don't forget, the tobacco companies are the vape companies.

They are not. Tobacco started participating but they are a late entrant in the market. They do not have a tiny fraction of the revenue from vape that they lost from tobacco sales.

I'm a vape user, so call it self-delusion if you want, but I'm pretty skeptical that this means much.

This detail from the article seems pretty important:

But interestingly, tobacco smokers did not suffer more inflammation than those that used neither device.

So apparently cigarettes are not only safer than vapes, but completely harmless.

We know that's not true, so I have to conclude they're just measuring the wrong thing. Could the inflammation observed only in vape users still indicate something negative? Absolutely, but trying to make a comparison between cigs and vapes based on these results doesn't make sense.

No one knows what is in that vape liquid. I have a friend in his 60's who tokes one one of those things nonstop. It’s gotta be worse than cigs.

I switched from cigarettes to vape, but am starting to think the same thing

I smoke like two cigs a day. I used to smoke over a pack a day, but years ago I began to not enjoy it anymore and just naturally cut way back. I’ve been going like this for over 15 years. I see people with the capes that can’t put it down. Idk man, maybe try the gum?

Cool, you make your own. Six million other dumbasses don’t do that, so it must be clear that I wasn’t referring to you even by proxy. JFC.

    Contents of cigarette smoke:

    • nicotine
    • carbon dioxide (harmless)
    • carbon monoxide
    • tar
    • about 5000 other toxic chemicals
    • including literal radioactive elements.

    Contents of e-cig "smoke":

    • nicotine
    • water vapour
    • maybe some flavouring.

Who the fuck knows what the flavouring does. But apart from that, it is an extraordinary claim to say that e-cigs are "worse" than regular cigarettes. It goes against literally everything we know about smoking tobacco. Now maybe it's true, but you're gonna need some mighty convincing evidence to prove it.

You seem to have some misconceptions about the contents of ecig vapor. You are primarily vaping propylene glycol, sometimes mixed with vegetable glycerine, not water, in quantities that absolutely dwarf anything that has been tested, and when heated it forms methylglyoxal, which is very concerning. In addition, you have atomizers that perform the vaporization and are known to impart heavy metals into the vapor. There is also strong evidence that ecig vapor significantly reduces testosterone while cigarette smoke does not.

It is VERY early in terms of the knowledge we have about the specific harms of e-cigarettes, plenty of things have been thought to be 'safe' or 'safer alternatives' that didn't out to be nearly as safe as we thought.

Hmm, well today I learned. Fair enough, and thank you.

The flavoring (no “u”) is exactly what I’m concerned about. The process of deriving or manufacturing flavors is a huge concern as to the chemical residuals in both foods and vape. It can’t be good. I get there are six million chemicals in tobacco smoke but I guess what you’re saying is that those have been identified and we know the causes and results of those. Who is identifying the six million chemicals in vape juice and studying the long term effects of those? What will we see, new cancers? Third limbs?

Sorry, I only read and write English.

is exactly what I’m concerned about.

Okay, fair enough, that's a reasonable point.

To me this just says they found something unusual that needs more study to know what it means. Approximatly "People habituated to inhaling steam instead of smoke to deliver nicotine . . . react differently to people not accustomed to doing it." which is interesting but hardly the same as "more dangerous than smoking"

at least they have the honesty to say not all inflammation is dangerous, and that vapes are still considered less dangerous than smoking!

A bit of inflammation isn't necessarily bad for a healthy person.

I switched to those Vuse 5% last year, but over the summer all the stores around me must have had counterfeit ones. Every organ in my body hurt after using it for a couple of hours, and I would end up sleeping for 12 hours+. Tried some nic salt vapes, it reminded me too much like K2 or spice. Head swelled up, heart raced and short of breath.

So I switched to the Zyn 6mg pouches. I love em.

There is no way vaping is safer than smoking cigarettes.

I have COPD, which means that my lungs are very damaged and are sensitive to irritation..

If I smoke weed or delta8, it is almost soothing to my lungs.

If I vape, I can feel damage being done, but only a little.

If I smoke even one tobacco cigarette, I can feel the harm for days..

Double speak on display: It caused inflammation...not cancer, not lung disease, not something normally of concern, but something totally else. Saying it cause "MORE" is misleading, as they explain that normal cigarettes didn't cause inflammation.

Of course, Nicotine causes heart problems over long periods of time, no matter the form, as it stimulates. Serious illnesses cause serious lung inflammation resulting in lung damage to tissues, not to be confused with unquantified amounts of inflammation detected by proxy with a radioactive tagging CT scan method used, which isn't really meant to quantify or be used in this way.

Many foods, including refined processed foods, refined sugar, and high fructose corn syrup (ie vitamin corn, in the US) cause inflammation, as well as smog, pollution, and micro-plastics (you have a synthetic carpet? ew).
