communists had infiltrated the government

LOL.

Soviet Union: "American spies have infiltrated the country, spies and agents of foreign powers are a fact of life that all great powers have to deal with. Now that Stalin is dead and not letting his paranoia fuck everyone over, I guess we will just handle them quietly."

America: "**OMG there's a CoMMiEE sPY in GOvERnmENT!!1! We better blackball movie writers and stop them from every working in Hollywood again!!!"

The Red Scare wasn't about communism. It was about a human turd, Joseph McCarthy, using the fear of communism to further his career no matter who it hurt, and a turf war between Hoover's FBI and the CIA.

That's like the high school version of it we're taught, but there were actually communists trying to infiltrate the government.

[–]Alphix 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They've succeeded, too.

I'm not totally clear what you mean.

Do you mean everyone who might have thought those economic ideas were good like Bernie Sanders types, or do you mean foreign spies and assets? I suspect weavils responded assuming you meant the former

If you mean the latter (my assumption based on your use of 'infiltrate'), I know their were spies and assets, but I also think McCarthy suspected everyone who might be sympathetic to that ideology of being an asset and took it to dystopian thought-police levels

We're taught these days that McCarthy was a fool going on a witch hunt, but he wasn't wrong about communists seeking to infiltrate the government.

I wouldn't be so quick to trust the official narrative on that anymore.

What he did I think might have been necessary and proper.

The result of actual and effective communist subversion on the media and educational system.

Probably not, but if their were still communist russian spies would it be cause to go after Bernie Sanders because he attended communist meetings in his youth, or justify Hillary's baseless railroading of Trump and Gabbard for being suspected of Russian something or other? How about censoring the internet of communist/Russian stuff, or going after people who write the wrong things like that psychologist Peterson?

I personally feel this sets a very dangerous precedent for eroding civil rights to allow this in any circumstance. Zelensky has used similar war-time justification to shut down political rivals and take over the media

You're right, it's a fine line. And the dude will forever be demonized for what he did. Still, you let your enemies sit at the table and have equal say even while they don't have the same regard for your opinions and it doesn't work out well. Look at the tranny coalition, they took that grace and took advantage and then turned to censor everyone against them. McCarthy seems nobler in retrospect.

I don't disagree with what you are saying here. You are drawing parallels between two ideologies you view as harmful, but I have a different analogy that I believe is a closer fit.

Communism is an ideology intertwined with foreign nations and foreign power, there were nations of communists who were our enemies. I don't see a corresponding nation of transexuals creating a national military security threat, or the same war-time justifications

Now what I do see from the woke left looks an awful lot like good old fashioned christian intolerance of decades past. They want to stop people from expressing things contrary to their ideology, by policing values and language, and demanding that other people follow their system of beliefs. We have had plenty of christian legislators try to do the same things - teach creationism in schools for example. I think if this was 1000 years ago, the wokes would very well go on an inquisition and do away with blasphemers against them. Just look at Disney. 20 years ago they were all about appeasing christians with purity rings and wholesome christian values, but now they are catering to the woke crowd who demand to see values of diversity and inclusion by having all the characters be gay and black. This is very much a secular religion of morality and values to these people

In my mind its the wokists and christians that are opposite sides of the same coin

But I agree, if we let these people take over the government its not good, we'd have a quasi-religious state like some sort of woke Sharia law. Religious states tend to be very oppressive

I don't see a corresponding nation of transexuals creating a national military security threat.

I see the new woke ideology that embraces gender identity as not only a national security threat but as a threat to American exceptionalism. Kids these days don't do anything, don't try to accomplish anything, they sit around and contemplate their gender. We've paralyzed a whole generation by causing them to give undue consideration to one of the most basic things there are. To embrace the self over all else, they believe that a person with no talent or abilities can decide to become special without any effort.

Everything is going to shit.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I don't disagree with any of that, this ideology is definitely harmful in a lot of ways. But I think in terms of national security, what I am trying to say is that this threat is an internal one rather than an external one, as opposed to something that involves a direct threat from foreign powers

[–]Musky[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

How do you know this is not being fueled by foreign actors? Tik tok, obviously is a Chinese platform that espouses plenty of gender identity ideology, and I imagine China loves Americans being preoccupied with such pointless aims. I'm sure a number of countries would. Countries that have divisions dedicated to cyber warfare, that includes psyops too.

Someone, somewhere, and probably a lot of someones is trying to manipulate American society.

Why equate "communist" with "Russian" though? Russkies aren't commies anymore. And the instigators of communism worldwide were not Russian, nor North Korean, nor Chinese... You get the idea.

I wouldn't normally, but Musky was talking about 'communists' doing 'infiltration' during the cold war and Mcarthyism

[–]JewsAreOfColor 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Nope, they were white godless Europeans.

[–]JewsAreOfColor 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They were the one saying to play nice with the Russians when they were still a communist country. Now that they have been free of communism for 30 years and are stronger than ever without it, they are the ones doing the scaremongering.

Well duh, great powers spy on each other. There are "foreign agents" reporting to France, Israel, India, Germany etc in the US government right now, I stake my life on it, just as there are agents reporting back to the US in most countries too. This is a fact of life for nations.

Nevertheless, the US response was clownish, stupid, exaggerated, and most especially it was paranoid, and this was driven by the personality of McCarthy, and the turf war between the CIA and FBI, not by any genuine threat to the country.

[–]JewsAreOfColor 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

“Red scare” is a communist buzz phrase in and of itself. Anybody who denies communist infiltration of the government is themselves a communist.

[–]weavilsatemyface 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

LOL. Another Great Brain who doesn't know what communism is, and sees Reds everywhere.

"Mommmm, I asked for BBQ sauce with my chicken tendies, and they gave me tomato sauce instead! They're commmmmmmunists!!!"

Projecting your own infantile mentality on those who can see communism for the evil it is, always was, and always will be, like all things German. Typical communist mentality. Thanks for proving my point, degenerate scum.

No clue what this is trying to say....but I guess some people actually fell for the media's denial of the midterm's red wave...

From wiki:

A Red Scare is the promotion of a widespread fear of a potential rise of communism, anarchism or other leftist ideologies by a society or state. The term is most often used to refer to two periods in the history of the United States which are referred to by this name. The First Red Scare, which occurred immediately after World War I, revolved around a perceived threat from the American labor movement, anarchist revolution, and political radicalism. The Second Red Scare, which occurred immediately after World War II, was preoccupied with the perception that national or foreign communists were infiltrating or subverting American society and the federal government. The name refers to the red flag as a common symbol of communism

McCarthyism is the practice of making false or unfounded accusations of subversion and treason, especially when related to anarchism, communism and socialism, and especially when done in a public and attention-grabbing manner.

The term originally referred to the controversial practices and policies of U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy and covers the period of the late 1940s through the 1950s.[3] It was characterized by heightened political repression and persecution of left-wing individuals, and a campaign spreading fear of alleged communist and socialist influence on American institutions and of espionage by Soviet agents

I'm familiar with those terms and history, but the weirdly meme-ish trans stuff seemed targeted at some sort of unsaid context.

Oh! My bad, I didn't post the context. It's in regards to the Virginia anti-trans laws, specifically this comment: https://i.imgur.com/Xk4BNM2.png

Interesting. I've not been able to find the bill mentioned...instead, I've only found Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act, which seems to be only pertaining to < 18 years old, rather than 21. There are likely several bills aiming to address this, though.

“Anti-tr-ns” is an anti-Gay anti-female slur.

Wikipedia is an anti-Gay hate site.

Thank you for admitting that emasculation and eugenics have become a cornerstone of leftist policy.

Thank you for admitting that the election was rigged, and that electoral fraud deprived us of the red wave that we are entitled to.
