Should have started a Reddit alternative

Because he wouldn't have been able to gain any publicity whatsoever. The government and big tech collude to have a monopoly over the media and control all information. You're lucky if they even let you exist. Just look at how much more successful reddit still is than all its much superior alternatives.

He could have set up a rack of servers in a closet at Tesla, spent a few k recreating twitter and ANNOUNCED IT ON THE JOE ROGAN SHOW.

I know exactly why he went the much more expensive route of buying twitter.

Why?

[–]troubleshooter 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I could tell the Jewish people how to easily drive the muslims out of Palestine.

They would run away screaming.

It is vlad that drove them out of Europe.

This time is easier, no violence required.

Is that why he bought twitter? Can you elaborate?

You are right, it would be trivial to create another site, but not so trivial to make it the most used platform of that type. See Trump's Truth Social. He wasn't buying an app so much as he was buying a user base and an audience to influence. He wants a say over speech on what he views as the modern public square, so he bought the public square

Elon Musk literally looked at the world and decided the best thing he could do with 44 billion dollars was to make sure Nazi voices were being heard.

That's a sophomoric argument. It's for free speech, and this is Saidit ffs, all of us have been kicked off mainstream platforms, well, except for your pansy line toeing card carrying shitlib, but that's in vogue with big tech rn.

there is the potential to make a lot of money in authoritarian misinformation politics

So nothing has changed then, since misinformation politics was rife on the platform before Musk bought it.

Socks is Mr. Misinformation, he just wants the right kind of misinformation.

You remember, HKP was schooling you, and you were getting all mad, and you were like "you're a big meenie, stop talking to me!" 😂

        And before that in chat....

The reality is that twitter doesn't get nearly as much traffic as you think it does.

There is a reason he bought twitter.

Twitter isn't dying, it's got an all time high number of real users right now. And nobody uses the Twitter clones because the appeal of Twitter is it's where people are. You might as well type your thoughts in Notepad, you'll get about the same engagement on Mastodon or Gettr.

            [–]troubleshooter 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

when mr Elon musk acquired Twitter, the tranny mafia died and lost it's ability to rule social media.

They threatened to abandon Twitter and go to mastadon, but quickly realized that there is nobody to ban at mastadon. All of their enemies are at Twitter.

The goal of the tranny mafia is to SCREAM at the church and non-trannies, but those people are at twitter.

Because his bosses, the DOD and CIA, are already well integrated into Twitter, so it makes surveillance and public opinion forming much easier when everybody's on the same platform. Letting Twitter die would mean many separate platforms...

I don't know. Perhaps some madness. If he invested a billion in Parler or Gab it would have eclipsed t-atter (t-at means female genitalia in UK slang).

            [–]monkeymagic 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

because the entire thing is an opp. the desired (and quite malleable) social effects wouldn’t occur so predictably if the network in question wasn’t twitter. twitter has seemingly been primed for his takeover since its inception if you ask me.

            [–]troubleshooter 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I really dont think that there is as much traffic at Twitter as they claim.

I am pretty sure about this.

He probably mostly wanted to stop Twitter from continuing to be used as a democracy destroying weapon.

Creating a new social media is easy. Getting people to use it is hard.
