Tips are based on a percentage of the food cost, they automatically go up with the cost of food.

I'll do my typical 20% (or a bit more if I like the service), but I'm not going to be bullied into doing more than 20% on a regular basis.

Around here the bill for a table of 4 is easily $200. Does the server really deserve $40 for the 15 min of work to take an order, bring out the food and occasionally refill a drink?

If they are handling 5 tables that's easily $160 an hour. Mostly tax free because they are absolutely under reporting thier income. It's insane.

Negative. 10% is what you get for decent service unless the bill is super low then I may round up. Zero is an option.

Such a beacon of Christian generosity.

Most countries don't tip at all, you know.

    People get paid a wage.

Waiters are not a charity in need of donations.

In the US, that's how they make their income.
