it is your teeth it attacks most

and your bones

the acid from the soda requires calcium to neutralize it.. and often ends up taking it from your bones

sugar spikes also cause huge upset to our systems and the high quantity of energy gets stored as fat

you lose big when you drink soda

It’s the sugar that leads to the addiction.

Sugar is definitely super addictive, but if you're a fan of Coke, nothing else replaces it, which makes me think it is something unique to Coca Cola. Otherwise any sugary drink would work for that Coke craving.

Well it’s the taste you prefer and it’s supply is abundant. If they removed Coke from the market you would just replace it with another drink.

Coke was removed from the market and it was an awful couple years. They replaced it with the awful New Coke.

Personally I rarely drink them these days, they're kinda pricey now. But that desire doesn't go away.

I think we don't have a great choice of non-alcoholic drinks in the west which aren't either acidic or super sweet.

There just isn't a great range of things to replace it.

Coke is extremely acidic. It's more acidic than most citrus-based drinks. However, it causes less dental erosion because citric acid binds more strongly to calcium than phosphoric acid does.

As long as we're getting addicted to something anyway, they should go ahead and put a feelable amount of coca in there.

Soft drinks make me cough up phlegm, same with milk. Not sure why. I never drink them unless it's all I have to mix with vodka.

Because they give you slight acid reflux which irritates your throat and lungs.

Thank God for the soothing properties of liquor.

Coca leaves aren't very addictive.

I know but the extract is. Then there's a secret process to decocaine the extract and it goes into the soda.

definately probable given how industry actively cultivates ideas like addiction in delightful terms for the profit

Caffeine is also addictive

I can’t drink soda because of health issues. Coke tastes good though.

What's wrong?

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Diabetes and cholesterol.

It’s okay. I love roasted vegetables and fruit muttled water.

I love Coke too. I just don't want to pay $5 for corn syrup water tho. Also it's terrible for you.

Coke is my favorite soda as well, but I try not to drink any of that stuff for the reasons you mentioned above. I have given in a couple times at In N Out when I forget to bring my own water (They very frustratingly do not carry bottled water, and I hate fast food water, because it comes out of the same fountain spigot as the orange drink or the lemonade and tastes funny 😞).

Something doesn’t need to be chemically addictive to be psychologically addictive. If something has a short term generally positive result many people will work it into their routine and sense of normalcy. Same reason the “non-habit-forming” labels on so many over the counter medications, especially sleep aids, are complete bs.
