She's probably right. I've seen many internet communities that follow that pattern. However, the fact that some are not sexually motivated doesn't mean that we should be soft on them.

Idk, unless you're into child porn "communities" yourself, you can't really know what goes on there. I would not be shocked to find out what she's saying is true. There's no limit to what bored and disgusting people will do protected with the anonymity that the internet provides.

What is she saying? People share child porn for some kind of anonymous clout, like Reddit karma or just virtual pats on the back?

WTF, man? You think that's true? I'm not saying it isn't, just that it's fucked up and I never would have imagined such a thing.

Honestly the whole child porn / pedophilia thing seems so manufactured. You never heard about it until that Dateline crap started (which wasn't about pedophiles anyway, but it planted the seed). Then, 10-15 years later pedophile paranoia was in full swing and you had kids on Reddit saying shit like "crap, I think I'm a pedophile, what do I do?!?"

Yeah, I could see it. Low lifes sitting in mom's basement treating CP like some kind of collection thing. Bragging about the "content" they have.

I'm assuming she's saying this for a reason, she's probably witnessed it. Plus, attraction to children is unnatural and not common. So if some are into this stuff for reasons other than sexual gratification, that would make sense statistically.

BUT - the idea that we should give such people softer consequences is disgusting. It doesn't really matter what their motivations are, any one who has CP in their possession should be locked away permanently. Or sent away, quarantined to their own community of degenerates.

I agree. The statement is probably a reflection of her experience as a judge. To me the real issue is in the sentencing.

Using this mindset of "the collector " is not an excuse for a lenient sentence by any measure.

Could you imagine the ubserdity of this logic if it was transferred to the crime of pysical rape? Some Joe claiming he was only doing it for the prestige of his ego and internet buddies...
