It's not just educated people but it's probably a higher % of people who went to college that are this way. It could be related to the fact that the majority of people who graduated college go on to corporate jobs, and in those environments going against the hivemind is suicidal

There are a few studies, which I can't be bothered to find right now, which show when a college educated person is wrong they are far less likely to realise it because they have been taught how to shout down other arguments too well. They end up conning themselves. They are also more easily convinced with just words while less educated people like to see facts.

What I read is that they refuse to confront anything which invalidates the entire system we live in, because they're the ones who have status within it. This is one of the many, eerie parallels between our world and 1984, where it's exactly the educated people who make up the Party, while the lower class doesn't even need to be propagandized because nobody listens to them anyway.
