You know that there is much more to Paul's early messages about masks than the difference between cloth and N95. He and we aren't that dense. Most of us got by with basic cloth masks until recently (omicron) because research indicated that masks of most kinds reduced transmission significantly. The omicron strains are of course much more transmissible, which has us now focused on N95 (niosh) and KN95 masks which are required on flights. (Still, this is the ONLY domestic flight requirement in the US, but that's a different discussion.) Paul knows well that his approaches to masks have been aimed at anti-mask voters who want to use that excuse for not wearing masks - and want to tell others that they won't wear them because Paul told them they're not effective. It's not like they've read Paul's statements as pro-N95, and he's well aware of it. He's speaking to them, specifically.
