Over 40 years of institutional door jobs here = hospitals and schools have several things in common for their doors and 1 is solid core doors with 60-90 minute fire rating and the other is mostly passage function of latch or lever. Means the door cannot be locked from the inside and with a VERY great many school shootings obviously this is a prob. How to keep the shooter out? Shooter cannot shoot through a solid core door effectively if at all and there are quite a number of devices for sale today that are called ancillary door locks means the swinging function of the door is blocked. Some block function of the door closure and some just block the swing of the door. Effective, inexpensive and easy and can be mounted within moments by teacher or students if they're old enough.

When I was a kid we carried our own guns to school. We usually left them in the truck.
