The track record of servers shutting down is a disincentive for me to participate very much.

Yes, that and a really poor admin choice is why a large percent of the user base has departed, or minimized interactions. The banning of active users for no valid reason just accelerated the trend.

What makes it even more annoying is that saidit is still the best 'reddit clone' on the market, so it's not like people are wanting to leave.

We're working on solutions that remedy all the critical issues we can think of. The smaller issues and limitations all certainly add up, so actually leaving the unstable SaidIt for an decentralized forum with inferior features may not actually be more appealing unless there's some kind of permanent SaidIt failure or Lemmy/Lenny gets more features. We're also working on other platforms too.

We have a complete SaidIt backup and are aiming to mirror all SaidIt content on the Lemmy/Lenny platform. We also aim to have MUCH better search capabilities and a MediaWiki. Unfortunately, users will have to create new alias accounts, so editing their old content won't be possible.

lemmy isn't well done. a lot of features actually don't work the way you'd expect them to. that is why i am here way more.

I won't argue that. We don't aim to compete with SaidIt, we simply want to decentralize, backup the SaidIt database, and be the lifeboats if SaidIt does go down. Hopefully in time people can improve Lenny/Lemmy to be a better platform.

You can bitch and moan, wish and hope, or you can make it happen. There's a lot of shit going on in this world and we know it's going to get MUCH MUCH WORSE. I'm doing what I can now, in the best way that I know how, rather than waiting for someone else to do it or waiting until it's too late and we're out of time and options.

I'm not doing it alone. We need all the help we can get.

    You can help too.

Surely i could do more. But first i gotta solve personal matters which won't resolve before this winter and then i gotta get a stable internet connection again.

Now i can't even look at this site most of the times because i ditched my sim-cards, my cable-internet and left the classical banking system.

Since i intend to stick to these decisions it won't get easier but surely i will make more time. In winter there is always more free-time in my schedule.

When you resolve those personal matters other personal matters will spring up. Life keeps on happening.

I understand hard times and scrape by every month, and now shrinkflation is making it all much worse.

Yet I'm more committed than ever to making solutions while we still can.

Keep the sim-cards. Collect them all. Create a Sim-Cards Trading Club. Mail them to other folks like me. I'll use it for a while and send it on. That should confuse TPTB a little.
