The 40% statistic in this article is Apparently gotten from one part of a 'study' a sociologist called Leonor Johnson (She doesnt show up on google because shes a nobody) presented to the us house of reps select committie on children youth and families in 1991.

https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED338997.pdf

These are her 'findings', if you read page 47, she defines abuse as 'verbal or physical assualt' aka yelling at your partner or kids

Shes a questionable professional from way back. I want to remind people any asshole can hand out surveys, create a narrative out of it, then book some time to present it to someone, then sites like yahoo create fake news out of wrong statisitcs.

Thanks for posting this. I had always heard that the divorce rate for law enforcement was higher, too, but that seems to be an outdated study and it may even be lower than the national average. I can't find a recent study, though. A reason I would believe that domestic violence rate is slightly higher is the higher occurrence of PTSD while on the job affecting home life.

Yeah i honestly wouldn't know anything about divorce rates, I just investigated that one study and found it to be bullshit. I would guess that any stressful profession would have higher rates of all negative factors relating to home-life.

Problem for me is I don't trust the media, and I would have to look into the studies of any of mainstream claim lol.

this is complete bullshit... most cops are really laid back and cool when off duty.

this is propoganda bullshit from those "defund the police" screwballs.

dont believe a word of this..

Lol, you are so full of shit. This has been known long before BLM and defund the police were a thing.

i have done time... have you? probably not... maybe you have, i could be wrong.. but from your answer, i dont think so...

i just happen to be fairly well exposed to the law enforcement personality.. i have experience being around these types... and i am just telling you that this 40% number is complete horsecrap.

for those of you that are reading along, do you ever watch the "cops" types of shows on television, etc... police actually have more patience than your average person in the world.. they get a lot of practice learning how to deal with difficult people, and so they get better at it..

i have had my difficult run ins with cops, but in each and every case it was purely my fault... if i had just been a tad cooperative, everything would have been fine.

i am just a bit weary over these "defund the police" screwballs.. they dont know what the fuck they really want... and i wanna promise you that if were to actually defund the police that you will effective destabilize the entire country..

please dont do that, the outcome will not be very nice.

I dont support any of that retarded shit. But I do know a lot of cops and they all become bigger assholes the longer they serve. Tiny tyrant syndrome. They all get so used to the way people treat them when they have so much power to fuck up thier whole month that they learn to expect it all the time. They think they are owed it. Then when the wife tells them to fuck off they can't handle it and pop her in the mouth.

But my experience and your experience means fuck all. There have been studies of this for a hundred years now and that 40% comes from actual scientific studies pre clown world. I heard these things back in college and even high school, 20 years ago.

Maybe you are from some small town or just have a unique experience; but my gut says you are just a cop bullahitting his ass off. Either way, anyone having doubts can pull up literally decades of proof.

It makes sense though. If you are trained/selected to be violent at your job, I think you would be more likely to be violent at home.

[–]crackerjack 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

that is where you are wrong... police are NOT trained to be violent at their job... in fact, they are trained to do precisely the opposite..

just fyi, someone pulled this "40% of police are abusive at home" number out of their ass.

The problem I have with this study is that they don't define what is classified as abused and they don't show the sample size. Even the article mention, I quote : "it's worth nothing that the sample size are a bit small". But they don't mention the sample size and that matters a lot.

Abuse could be : have your husband scream at you in the last 12 month. And then the wife think : I screamed at him because he overcooked the chiken and told him he's an idiot and he screamed back telling me I just have to cook it myself. And then they check yes in the question and they count her instance as police abuse.

Or Abuse could be : As your husband hit you in the past 12 month. In which case it would be quite relevent.

But if they don't tell us how they have defined abuse, there's just no way to know so the interpretation of that study is meaningless.

As for the sample size, it define the margin of error which is also quite relevent to know, yet again they don't mention it.

I don't think it's 40%, but I do believe it's higher than average.

they pulled that number out of thin air... this is fake news... somebody is trying to start one of those narratives...

i will tell you who is likely to be abusive at home and that is those antifa and blm screwballs.

have you watched any videos of antifa lately? these are psychiatric patients that have escaped from the hospital.
