It's one month old and is being built from scratch by a former and verified Voat user. Whether you love, hate, or are indifferent to the kind of content this site ended up with, it's encouraging to see a community so dedicated that they will rebuild.

Also Poal seems to have turned many people off, maybe prompting this NuVoat.

Voat Lives Matter

the site content was pretty boring. The nazi version of /u/jesus x100

Lol. The fact that you call it boring betrays your bias. It shows you desperately want people to not try it out. It can't be any more or less boring than any other news aggregator, and it certainly appears that there are more people engaging there than here.

It has an ugly UI and a narrow focus but this kind of shit is not boring.

that kind of content was everywhere. Without also being surrounded by aggressive voices. 4chan is bad, because every retarded fucker posts there. Voat was the same. I can do with less morons in my media. Saidit was comfier, as the retarded leftists were easily silenceable, and the retard right wasn't really here.

I guess i'm nostalgic for the days before the TCP/IP stack

It's not bad because of the retards, it's bad because it is completely controlled now. Post any actual information and your thread will be 404'd, and you will be IP restricted, before you even see a reply. The whole site glows.

this is true. good threads die fast, but it makes it easy, just programmatically open everything, and close stuff that is still open after 20 minutes. read the stuff that got shoah'd

tranny jannies took over /pol/ there. they are a cancer

[–]Canbot 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Ok. But what you honestly don't like about it is that it is too far right. But what you said is that it is boring. You lied.

[–]bobbobbybob 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

too far in either direction is boring, as you get homogeneity of thought. that's boring.

and don't call me a liar, just because your comprehension is flawed, you simpering cunt

But with the GreatAwakening/QAnon folks to round it out

I kind of miss QRV from old voat. They had the most outlandish theories you could imagine. Some, like the pedo stuff, was obviously real, but there was a core that fully believed cranks like serialbrain2.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah it was super wild. Maybe those random numerical usernames let people speak extra freely.

My favorite theory was that Trump is literally the messiah, and he was about to hop across the pond and build the Third Temple himself.

Wow I'm impressed someone took the initiative to do this. I wonder who is funding this version. If it's built from scratch did they finally get away from the .NET and all the ridiculous Azure $6k/mo licensing fees? That would easily be the smartest thing they could do for longevity

[–][deleted] 6 insightful - 6 fun6 insightful - 5 fun7 insightful - 6 fun -  (5 children)

I think it's just one dude who isn't even asking for money, yet. Yep, it's all new and PHP now, a fresh start. I saw the word CCP on there so he might be going for an exact old Voat clone.

[–]magnora7 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Wow, wild. I wonder if he has copyright to do that or if they'll sue him. Seems like they were hardly managing voat for the last year or so so I imagine they will be too lazy to sue but they might issue a DMCA over the name voat or something. It definitely looks like they're going for an exact clone.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Oh I was curious about that too. He's just gonna go for it, and if they sue he has a backup domain and logo ready to roll. I hope they don't scare him off with a fake lawyer email like this site has gotten.

I think the from scratch thing is kinda silly though. We'll see how he does once it starts getting real traffic.

Yeah not a bad plan I guess. Risky, but it instantly captures all the clout that that name carries. But it also comes with all the baggage, so good luck to him with that.

Yeah and PHP is an odd choice for a website in 2021. New designs always run in to scalability problems too. But escaping the licensing fees is probably nice. I'm curious to see what happens with it.

PHP is legit, it's the unsung unsexy hero of the internet. Some stats put it as high as running 80% of web sites. Facebook helped modernize it big time when they were using it. Maybe I'm biased, it's my day job language.

[–]magnora7 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Ah wow. I've heard good things about it in terms of reliability and standardization, but I always regarded it like PASCAL which does what it does well, but is outdated. I didn't know it was still in such common use

(System message below)

Hey guys

We've made it to day 30. I am very proud with how things have turned out so far. This community has been great. Lots of great posters from old voat have come over and this place is starting to feel a bit like our old home. I appreciate all of you who contribute and keep this place alive.

Traffic is really starting to pick up. We are consistently getting over 2k+ unique viewers a day, and approaching 1 million requests per day. But I am starting to notice some slow down again, so next week I plan to work on optimizing everything, and changing how comments load to be similar to other similar sites. This should reduce the load on the server and speed things up. In the meantime here are some stats:

In 30 days

858 accounts have been registered

3397 topics have been posted

16089 comments have been posted

43242 votes have been cast

233 subverses created

Looking forward to the next 11 months and hitting that 1 year mark. That will be the next time I update these stats. See you then :D

I wasnt a big fan of voat but once in a while they posted some cool stuff. They also gave the pono spammers the boot unlike saidit

[–]magnora7 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah because voat would lock their username registrations for weeks, but we keep ours open so new people can join. Anyone spamming is immediately banned, I ban dozens of accounts a week for it

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I might hop on back over to voat just to lurk as it’s gotten too intense& extreme for me culture-wise as a user which is why I originally stayed on SaidIt. Sure it’ll still have the occasional interesting and relevant news.

I have a life again. Only annoyed I did not spot it sooner.

I had a Voat account and then realized that the community was, how shall I say it... not my cup of tea.

But good on them for resurrecting it. As they say, I may disagree with your views but I will defend your right to express them.
