People who have been watching twitch / streams for some time - what the hell happened?

I remember back in 2014 when people used to stream and be a bit edgy. Cursing was allowed, they frequently said offensive or off kilter jokes and what not. It seems as though that's what gaming culture was made of, actually. A hallmark of people playing live was comical fan interactions that sometimes stepped over the line.

Well, I haven't touched Twitch or any of the platforms for years and finally I decided to see what is popular in this day and age. I am not so much shocked but disappointed. Everything is so neutered, if that's the right word.

Tit streamers that sit with glazed eyes as they read complimentary comments and act halfway excited at the sight of a $3.00 donation. Constant censorship and hall monitor like moderators.

It just feels like the fun has been wiped out of it all together. Not to say you should be allowed to come in and spam obscenities, but the genuine feeling of interaction is gone and it's like I am just watching a lifeless puppet play some TrEnDy videogame while giving one word monotone responses to the chat.

I guess I am just really far behind on what's going on and this is all due to cancel culture, maybe people are fearful of losing their advertisements / sponsorships / subscriptions? It would make the most sense.

Simply put - I remember streamers as eccentric personalities that took pride is going against the grain. Now it just seems like a bunch of geeks with no personality or sense of humor.

Once the money coming in from twitch starts to pay the bills the streamers will start to take the T&Cs seriously. This is how media corporations can control creators. If you Don't toe the line you will get cut off.

I think it depends whi you watch. Destiny e.g. was chatting sbout kenisha shooting in a group, and one female gorilla introduced herself as "black woman" to witch Destiny responded "can't imagine how sad her life might be if the first and most important thing in her life is the color of her skin"

That's all allowed, just don't expect that from top streamers that are keeping it brand friendly stream to maximise profits. Twitch is big, and you probably generalizing too much. What sort of interaction are you expecting from top streamers? No way to read chat. If you want to have a "relationship", go to small streamers.

    In a corporatist system of government, corporate censorship is state censorship. When there's no meaningful space between corporate power and government power, it doesn't make much difference whether the guy silencing your dissent is Mark Zuckerberg or William Barr. America most definitely has such a system.

    And when independent candidates run for office and can't get their message out for being shadow banned, and the corporatist candidates are always the number one trending subject, you'll be there to finger wag for not bothering to set up their own world-class content distribution system first.

    Another platform, Ruqqus.com, already got attacked and had its hosting revoked. They had a multi day outage while they found another one. Saidit has been threatened, too. This is far, far bigger than Trump. It's about being able to say what you want without the powerful censoring you. And you're on the side of the powerful against We The People.

      Yes, they can do whatever they want, however, if they choose to be a publisher they cannot be afforded section 230 protections. You're entirely free to ban political speech you disagree with, however, you must be held liable for the content you allow — for that which was removed was done so without good faith.

      That's not true at all, Twitch has a problem (and regular scandals) with moronic censorship for a while already. Streamers condemn Twitch administration for this and demonstratively leave all the time. And it's not just US-based segment, mind you. Streamers from countries not brainwashed by political correctness even more butthurt about it for obvious reasons.

      If you want to have a "relationship", go to small streamers.

      This is kind of true, Twitch censorship works on reports. If a streamer has 1-2 viewers he can get away with anything for a long while.

      I probably am, but I can't tell if it's something in terms of a personality that is now more common, or if they're acting this way due to their corporate overlords. A good example - A kid was playing racing games but the one he was on was a bit arcade like. He wouldn't stop talking about how much he loved cars. I said "There are incredible simulators out there, you should expand to them". And the entire chat attacked me.

      "Uh, really? Chill or you're getting banned". He went off "Bro, I am seriously ready to kick you. You come on my stream and tell me what to play?".

      I will sound horribly bigoted when I say this but when I went on Twitch last night the main streamer there was some drag queen. Yeah, they're probably funny or entertaining whatever - but I am getting a bit tired of the degeneracy in this world.

      A comment on that link you sent me (Keemstars twitter post) said that white supremacy in gaming has to stop.

      These people have genuinely ruined everything.

      I probably did half a dozen way more degenerate things than wearing the wrong clothing, and that's just me waking up.

      Back when I was a youngster my brother and I would fight for who got to play video games. Often I lost so I'd have to watch him play.

      I don't get how people choose that role. Twitch confounds me.

      Can we just start calling those freaks 'it' ? I don't feel like tracking what their real sex is (the one they were born as) or whatever they think now, or blah blah blah.       Everyone knows twitch censors creators, and delists them for wrong think. What people don't seem to realize it it also censors comments, even on live streams. So what the creators see is a lot of leftists comments and little or nothing else. The actual propaganda strategy includes right wing comments that are designed to be stupid and are essentially "false flag" or strawman comments that trick people into thinking that not only did they actually hear the opinion of someone on the right, that clearly everyone on the right is stupid.

      So the creators will literally get brainwashed into becoming more leftist.

      It's hard to prove but I have posted things and been told by other people that what I posted never popped up on their feed. In other instances what I posted didn't even make it to the comments streaming on MY screen. I have also heard people mention this on podcasts/discussion boards.

      Definitely post the results, whatever they are. I would not be surprised if they save the propaganda tools for people with bigger viewership numbers though; but either way data is data.

      OP is correct. All the boiler plate 'no sexism no racism no' yada yada feels so snowflake to me I just roll my eyes and don't bother. Bitchute/LBRY mirrors youtube, even after the overlords think you're not woke enough, so I just watch there. And I don't have to watch it at 1x speed, either.

      I think the key issue here is parasocial relationships. I don't think it's really about "cancel culture." The target audience is becoming more and more marginal, and everything ends up catering to the percentage of the audience that pumps enough money into the system to let people make a living off this. This results in an overall sterilization of the platform. A lot of the people who are watching are watching because it's "comfy" or are feeling just kind of blown out. They just want someone's voice in their ear, they don't want anything too exciting or engaging to happen.

      I should say that I also get a parasocial relationship vibe off some of the edgier/wackier gaming stream/video styles as well. You see a lot of comments about how viewers feel like they're friends with the guys in the show, often laced with semi-ironic jokes about how they're sad and lonely in real life.

      I think that watching game streams can be fun/relaxing, but too much is unhealthy, and I'm kind of uncomfortable with it being anyone's main "job." Doing it as a job is also why a lot of these guys aren't having fun making the stuff.
