I'm Asexual. I don't consider myself LGBT and really don't want to be involved with that community due the politics and highly-sexual nature of it.

True, but when used in regular conversation and not in a science/medical setting, the word has a somewhat different and negative connotation.

Because it is used instead of degenerate and depraved in polite conversation. Picking a different word because this one has been sullied just does the exact same thing to the next word. Retarded used to be the polite way to say stupid. We need to stop destroying things in the name of politeness.
