I think the best way to bring these new subs to life is to start posting there yourself. That's what I plan to do to help this site grow. I plan to post something in a different sub every day. Whether it's an article or just a video or even just a comment. Small steps, just to get started.

[–]Edge_Finder 6 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 4 fun -  (23 children)

I'm actually a pretty big submitter, but I've been posting in some in some slow movers where it applied. I like to run a clean ship. I cant find electric, or rock sub... etc, I mean I could fill them, i seriously listen to everything... its kinda frustrating throwing everything into one pool. But if its good... i usually can tell within first 10-15 seconds, or i skip thru it fast and move on.

I know /s/metal exist, but i dont feel good about posting the dirty there. I never really had on any site. Some people just don't like growling and just like clean, I get it...altho people so far don't seem to mind. I just dont wanna drive people away from the sub. @Entropick

[–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 13 insightful - 6 fun13 insightful - 5 fun14 insightful - 6 fun -  (10 children)

I'm pretty sure /u/Entropick would be easy going about you posting in metal (I did the banners even though I don't like /s/metal or /s/blackmetal music). He's been called now /u/ so he can tell you. There's also /s/BABYMETAL and /s/DoomMetal.

Also music related subs:
/s/3rdmusic, /s/80s, /s/90s, /s/analog, /s/BABYMETAL, /s/blackmetal, /s/BossmanTracks, /s/Braindance, /s/BubbleBathTunes, /s/ComedyMusic, /s/Covers, /s/DodderingDitties, /s/DoomMetal, /s/GratefulDead, /s/hardcorepunk, /s/Hardstyle, /s/HippityHoppity, /s/housemusic, /s/JustDuet, /s/Klezmer, /s/Lallygagarette, /s/ListenToThis, /s/LongSongs, /s/metal, /s/music, /s/MUSICUNKNOWN, /s/MusicVideos, /s/PeachyTang, /s/Proggers, /s/psychedelicsx, /s/RockyAcid, /s/Shamanica, /s/Soundaemonic, /s/Synthwave, /s/VideoGameOSTs,

Music related subs:
/s/cyberpunk, /s/guitar, /s/SongLyricsQuotes

Newer potentially music related subs:
/s/alternative, /s/AlternativeFashion, /s/applemusic, /s/CopyrightActivism, /s/Cyberpunk, /s/Doomer, /s/doomers, /s/Drugs, /s/drums, /s/GameMusic, /s/goth, /s/Gothic, /s/Korn, /s/MusicProduction, /s/ObscureMedia, /s/radiohead, /s/sublime, /s/vampires, /s/vinyl, /s/Writing

Maybe some of them don't belong exclusively or at all. And I may have missed some, especially the last few weeks. Lemme know. Also, /u/d3rr, perhaps you might want to update /s/music at your leisure.

Multisubs:
You may make multisubs from those lists, or just copy this one featuring all of them to your own profile to be customized: https://saidit.net/user/JasonCarswell/m/SaidIt_Music You can keep or remove each sub as you prefer after you've copied the multisub list to your own user profile. I have many more multisubs (not up to date at all, and some not organized/finished), but you can see what public multisubs look like (private setting also exists), at right below my subs: https://saidit.net/user/JasonCarswell/.

I love me some eclectic music too! But I've not distracted myself with making any music subs yet. However, I do have a list of some that are either clearly named topical genres or fun names of my existing playlists that one day if there was the 40 sub limit raised I might actually make. I don't need to own or mod the sub, so anyone feel free to make any of these you like (and maybe ask me to create a banner and CSS for it):

♫ Music Subs ♫ ♫ I Would ♫ ♫ Like To ♫ ♫ See Made ♫

CyberGoth EasyListening EpicMovieOSTs FolkYou
FunkHouse HippyTunes JoyBox Motivations
OldWestGhostTown ProgHouse PsyTrance SpyCraft

Some I've even started as YouTube playlists to share with friends, some are a mess / work in progress.

If you like those subs, please check out my new sub s/AlternativeFashion. I know fashion and music isn't always explicitly tied, especially these days where most trends come from Instagram, but it would be cool to see some battle jackets posted, or just talk about subcultures.

[–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Duh. Of course, I was just there. Added.

Yes, not always, but often fashion/style/creative expression can certainly relate to music.

[–]medium_tomato[S] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

LOL im an idiot and totally didn't read the username. I forget how tiny this site is.

Thanks for this. Good reference, will save.

thanks i will review

[–]Edge_Finder 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

i'll probably make a sub when possible, for more "extreme" stuff" once i get a chance

[–]Edge_Finder 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I love me some eclectic music too! But I've not distracted myself with making any music subs yet. n

naw dude, im still a newbie i'll figure it out

[–]christnmusicreleases 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

You can add s/ChristianMusic and s/Folk to the list, I moderate those and they're fairly new.

[–]whistlepig 8 insightful - 4 fun8 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 4 fun -  (5 children)

Remember that back when reddit had this many people on it, there weren't any subs at all.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

I kind of like the idea of no subs, just one big forum, on saidit here I just go to all

[–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

That's where I hang generally. That, and posting, and trying to keep up with the responses.

I'd actually be very happy if there were no subs - but I'd really really really have to insist on metatags then and some ways to sort them. More than 5 as Steemit is too limited in this regard, though SaidIt is worse with only has 1 "label" to sort via subs, and with a poor search.

[–]Edge_Finder 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

I actually do, i left reddit in 2015

but i think i started on reddit 2006? 7 maybe

this aint a dick contest, just saying

[–]whistlepig 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I'm pleased to have tied at this contest. ;]

Not as lonely.

[–]Edge_Finder 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

i cant say where i've been or they will track me down

[–]Chipit 7 insightful - 4 fun7 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

Please post whatever you want. We need normal content. It's part of the site growing. Can you imagine being a part of Reddit in 2007? That's what it's like here.

[–]Entropick 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

post away, all metal, dirty, clean, have at it, PLEASE.

[–]Edge_Finder 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Careful what you wish for...

[–]Entropick 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

you're good brother

[–]Stankmango 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Stoner metal, surf rock, etc. are welcome in my bushy tush/shaven haven /s/RockyAcid

[–]ISaidWhatISaid 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I am definitely gonna end up posting in /s/metal eventually, I have so many great metal songs to share.

[–]dissent 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

This is what I'm doing. No answers yet but newcomers will see the older threads and start chatting. Check /s/mechanicalgifs mostly me but people are starting to contribute

[–]Tom_BombadilBombadildo 13 insightful - 5 fun13 insightful - 4 fun14 insightful - 5 fun -  (2 children)

/s/Coronavirus is fairly active.

Head over there and become more informed about the relevant info that the MSM is attempting to censor.

[–]Edge_Finder 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

i will tell my friend about this, she is extremely knowledgeable about the euro scene of things. Maybe this this will get her over here, I joke because I say I'm testing you guys out

[–]medium_tomato[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Thank you for this! Reddit (and Youtube, FB, etc) have been censoring a lot of coronavirus information from the beginning, so this is great.

[–]Snowfy 13 insightful - 4 fun13 insightful - 3 fun14 insightful - 4 fun -  (5 children)

I gave up Reddit entirely even though 95% of my posts were hobby related. Unfortunately not a single one of my hobbies have subs on Saidit, but I can wait! Are niche hobby subs a good idea here or is there not enough people?

[–]medium_tomato[S] 11 insightful - 2 fun11 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Niche hobby subs are an excellent idea! Please make one. I myself started s/AlternativeFashion . It's tiny but hopefully will grow. You should also check if there is already something related to your hobby and post there as well? But if anything, this place definitely needs more hobby subs.

[–]Snowfy 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

That's great to hear. I just have to wait 2 weeks and I will, I don't really mind waiting. Starting a new tiny community and helping people with my hobby and hopefully getting new people into it will be huge motivation to do it more often too, I used to love teaching and helping people with it. I'll try to contribute to some other subs too, of course. I just started a new job so I haven't been spending much time on the internet.

[–]medium_tomato[S] 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I recommend slowly starting to keep a backlog of content to post as you wait, so you don't have to scramble to post as you start out. This helps when you have a kind of busy day but need to post something to keep the sub afloat with new content.

[–]Snowfy 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

That's a good idea. I have a bunch of older stuff that I never posted to reddit or anywhere else, it just needs to be organized and prepped a little bit.

[–]ISaidWhatISaid 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

s/AlternativeFashion definitely sounds like an interesting topic. I subbed.

[–]soundsalad 11 insightful - 2 fun11 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Is there a process for recovering abandoned or inactive subs /u/magnora7?

[–]Tom_BombadilBombadildo 3 insightful - 4 fun3 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

[–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It's possible. /s/Canada seemed abandoned. M7 allowed me on and I brought on every Canadian that wanted on. Many months later he showed back up and was fine with it. That's the only time I'm aware of.

[–]FediNetizen 9 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

/s/GenderCritical and /s/LGBdroptheT are fairly active, but you are right that it's slow right now. I've been trying to help and submit a few things, but on reddit I mostly just commented so it'll take a while to find good sites to link to.

[–]medium_tomato[S] 11 insightful - 5 fun11 insightful - 4 fun12 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

I am part of those and glad they are active but I don't only want to see that all day, every day..

[–]Tom_BombadilBombadildo 8 insightful - 5 fun8 insightful - 4 fun9 insightful - 5 fun -  (8 children)

/s/vaccinescepticism is another sub containing important censored content.

There's a mass vaccination agenda taking shape in the near future.

This content is extremely relevant to today's political disasters.

Information that is difficult to find.

It's not anti-vaccine. It's censored vaccine information.

[–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Lemme know if you or anyone want's to co-mod that. If you're new and want on I might want to wait a while considering how potentially sensitive that sub is, but I'm open to sharing.

When I started that sub I had no idea what was actually around the corner much less on the profoundly huge scale. All I knew was there was a lot of important information being suppressed and needing a topical sub to post in.

/s/Coronavirus is just as important and also related:

My top list of important subs I'd like to see made:

I would be happy if someone else made them for us all to post in, but if no one does I'll get around to it eventually.

* Recently someone started /s/genetics, which is better than combining them (but there's a limit). So all that's left is /s/Nanotech. And of course /s/Singularity, /s/ArtificialIntelligence... I should stop before I give you my big list.

[–]ISaidWhatISaid 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Jason, please come back to /s/gothic if time permits. I just discovered that sub and saw that you used to be a regular there. I saw you posted many good songs there. The original moderator is [deleted] but I will keep posting gothic songs and perhaps even some Youtube videos as well. Let's bring /s/gothic back to life.

[–]hennaojichan 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

Tom, I clicked on /s/vaccinescepticism several times but each time just got a message saying "Search Failed."

[–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

/s/VaccineSkepticism, spelled differently. Sceptic is the "chiefly British spellings of skeptic" (Merriam-Webster).

I'm not sure if being Canadian mattered but I was confused about that too for a while until it became habitual.

[–]Tom_BombadilBombadildo 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

/s/JasonCarswell /s/Magnora7 has the sub been taken down?

[–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 2 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 4 fun -  (2 children)

/u/U missplleed agina.

[–]Tom_BombadilBombadildo 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

It's been removed? Huh...

[–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

[–]magnora7 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

It's maybe better to browse 'all' and then do 'mute subs' to remove things you don't like, rather than trying to subscribe to everything.

[–]Jesus 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

How do you unmute subs? I have no idea why I don't know this.

[–]magnora7 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

You go to the sub, and on any post on the sub you click 'unmute sub' under that post

[–]Jesus 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Thanks!

Interesting sub! Not my cup of tea generally. Oddly, you beat me by 8 hours on your last post after which I independently posted on the next generation: /s/Terminology/comments/5lxw/fifthgeneration_warfare_5gw_propaganda_and/ Great minds think alike. I posted it because most COVID-1984 mask wearers don't even realize they're in a psyop.

I don't know if the Anarchist's Cookbook counts, but it's something to consider.

    [–]Sand313man 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Well the solution is to post in the new subs, or make your new sub and hope people post there.

    [–]medium_tomato[S] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I am trying to do just that. I was just kind of wondering what happened to all those people that created the subs and then kind of ghosted?

    [–]Sand313man 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

    Subs are irrelevant on saidit.

There isn’t really enough posts, anyways to support the subs. A few upvotes makes front page anyways.

    [–]BravoVictor 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

It doesn't help that Saidit bans new users from creating subs. I was thinking about curating some, and maybe even writing a script to mirror some comment over from Reddit, but I lost interest. It's not worth it if I have to fight Saidit.

    [–]medium_tomato[S] 12 insightful - 2 fun12 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

I actually don't mind this. I'm a new user and I waited until a few days ago to create my sub.

The reason they do this is probably to prevent this exact situation. Creating a new sub with zero content and zero users is hard. I'm basically spamming my own sub with a few new posts every day until I get some new participations. I think the mods just didn't want new people making reactionary subs with good topics just to give up on them quickly and leave them deserted...

    [–]Edge_Finder 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

I agree with you, someone could come in and puke new subs. if anything there should be a threshold like you gain 200 with time frame or whatever you can create one because you been actually active on the site

    [–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

The sub management of SaidIt has been shit from the beginning, and nothing's changed.

Long ago I suggested something like we create /s/SaidItSubPlanning where we all discuss what subs are needed, or people make their strong arguments for their interest, or have proven that they're using the ones they have (not necessarily a race or contest to fill them, but not abandoned), and vote on whether they should be made or not. People with a lot of empty subs shouldn't get more chances for a longer period.

I'm as guilty as many of having some duds and neglected subs (seemingly abandoned but not really), and part of that could have been avoided if we'd had feedback and input on the naming.

Maybe it's not too late to start a sub-planning sub to reign in the chaos. There's a chance, though slim, that if enough of us were to complain or campaign M7, he might just make a new rule/limit and embrace a democratic discussion-based sub-creation system. But I wouldn't get my hopes up.

    [–]Edge_Finder 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

    I've noticed you...

granted im very new here. but i seen shit happen in the past. I agree with it, and makes sense.

without saying, i think you know what i'm saying.

i'm all for less restrictions, sometimes you just have to pull those strings in the correct way.

I'm as guilty as many of having some duds and neglected subs (seemingly abandoned but not really), and part of that could have been avoided if we'd had feedback and input on the naming.

    there you go.

sub-planning sub to reign in the chaos.

i doubt there is chaos here, i dont see it.

i really been holding back tho, im legit

    [–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I don't know what you mean. Feel free to speak plainly with me. I welcome criticism that can help me learn or improve.

I'm not a Redditor. Sure I have an account now, but I never got into it. And to be honest I'm not a fan of much of the Reddit culture that comes to SaidIt. Yet much of it I do like. IMO, SaidIt doesn't have to strive to be like Reddit. Maybe I'm just a subversive, or maybe I just like to be free to think and play outside the box.

I'm all for less restrictions too, but I'm also in favour of organizing the chaos when possible. SaidIt has the potential to be a tremendous research tool for truth-seekers, but without categorizations or metatags it's very limited.

The chaos of which I speak is not just about empty subs. There is no shortage of very redundant subs that could be shared, or avoided if they'd just looked to see if there already was one. Also, once a sub is named you can't improve it if you think of a better name later. And then of course there are all the stupid sub names. I could go on and on, and if I brought examples then we'd be here all day.

    [–]Chipit 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It's to prevent harm to the site from vandals. It's very easy to start a new account.

    [–]lestratege 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

If you don't have to fight for something, it's often because it is not worth it. And if you stop fighting for something, then don't be surprised when it gets taken away from you.

Just post once a week in a sub. No more no less.

    [–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Is this "banning" new? There was a 2 week introductory period after which 1 new sub ever week to a maximum of 40 subs could be created by one user (regardless of how many aliases).

If you do write a script please share it in /s/SaidItBots.

What are your curation interests? Feel free to look at my subs and ask to co-moderate. I might even give some up entirely. I just want a topically named place to post on subjects - and to make some nice banners and CSS themes. I'm not keen on moderating anyone.

    [–]jonah 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

honestly the new sub I made was because I was always interested in it. I've been busy so I haven't been able to post stuff. Thank you for the kick in the ass, I'll quit slacking

    [–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

They are claim squatting in case they need to own their new properties they've staked out after they get ejected from Reddit.

    ProTip: Multisubs

To help organize your feed reading you can create multisubs (I started categorizing all the subsaidits but abandoned that a year ago, for reasons). There are two types of multisubs which are ways to merge multiple sub into combined feed lists.

From busy subs to empty subs, they can be combined into a single feed with your own custom title. The empty subs will not display anything until something is actually posted but will always be "checked" unless you choose to remove it from your customizable multisub list(s).

I love the multisub idea because I'd rather have posts sorted topically for better reference/research/sorting and the more feeds the better (as long as they're well named, not redundant, not overly limited/specific, etc), not a popular sentiment among everyone, but without metatags or other categorization there's not much alternative. So with many subs joined into a multisub things can be sorted yet be in a feed of your own naming (ie. politics, entertainment, music, games, sports, solutions, hobbies, humour, science, tech, gender, community, etc.). Ultimately I think this is good because it relieves the pressure to produce, and I'd rather see fewer higher quality posts than a quantity of mediocre posts trying to "fill" the sub.

    [–][deleted] 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

quit whining and post yourself, said is slowly getting more and more people,

a lot of new users are registering the popular subs

I've seen many of the same posts, if you want to start seeing content in these subs then start posting content.

    [–]m68k 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I can post only so much on my sub, but people who enjoy the ArenaFPS genre are free to post. :)

    [–]Extract 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

I've personally stopped posting to /s/ConsumeProduct for now, as I felt it'd just divide the community between here and consumeproduct.win which I didn't really want to do. Anyone else is free to post, of course.

Also, feel free to join /s/ShillWall - while activity is currently low, you can bet it's going to take a sharp turn up during the next Reddit banwave.

    [–]medium_tomato[S] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

Ok so dumb question, but what exactly is /s/ConsumeProduct? I can't tell if it makes fun of people's blind consumerism when companies slap their cause or fav character on something for more money, or what? Is it just anti left? Is there a similar sub with more discussion/explanation?

    [–]Extract 8 insightful - 4 fun8 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 4 fun -  (3 children)

It started as making fun of blind product consoomers.

It evolved the definition of "product" to cover various ideologies shoved down your throat (the same way other corporate products often).
It's not anti-left, it's anti-forced-ideologies - which include extreme left ones, but not only. Here is an example of making fun of some pretty dumb MAGA trend.

I love it. SaidIt is federated now, perhaps they can cohabitate, merge, or something. /s/anticonsumerism was on my todo list but I'm glad someone else made it.

    [–]Extract 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Feel free to post there on any anti-consoomerism topic.
Not every post has to be a meme, legit useful posts are more than welcome.

    Thanks for the invitation.

IMO, it's an exceptionally important issue. However I don't stumble upon much anti-consumerist content to share - and/or maybe I'm not practiced and consciously looking at things in that light enough to pull it out and point it out on a regular basis.

    [–]CarlDung 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I'm going to put up some content, and maybe start a new sub

    Subscribed! Looks interesting!

I've thought about making one but I don't know on what. I am generally more of a critic, cynic, and commentator, than someone who provides things. I'm pretty sure I'd get far too fed up far too quickly to actually be the owner of anything to bother - not to mention the time cost.

Like most people I just kind of float around from topic to topic. Being an internet nazi, working for free, does not interest me.

I just had an idea for a sub: /s/SaidItSpotlight You or anyone can make it.

    The purpose:
To focus on things that may have been overlooked, like undervoted missed posts.
Or if that's not your thing, mybe to be a critic, cynic, and commentator on specific trends, subs, communities, posts, comments, policies, functions, or whatever.
    Or both.
Or a focused collection of the best of the best of best, weekly, monthly, etc. presented in a newsletter for the normies and people who don't have the time to filter through it all like some of us do. It'd be a huge public service to many. Maybe you could even accept tributes for your efforts if people valued them enough.

Meh. I haven't really seen anything to be worth spotlighting, and I find any of these "meta subs" are really just about brigading. On Reddit or Voat or elsewhere, for the purpose of ensuring your "side" gets more votes and people you don't like get more downvotes. Here, just in proving upvotes, you accomplish the same thing.

I flatly, fundamentally, think any and all meta subs on any website should either not be allowed or be fundamentally locked out in some way as to prevent participants from crossing over.

It's probably that most of the people, myself included, who migrated from Reddit were lurkers and commenters. We need to seek out the content we want to see and discuss and bring it here.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I feel like the search function makes it hard to find subs. I keep searching for subs that I know exist but it finds nothing. I think because it is like the search on reddit which always sucked, by design there because they want to tell you what subs to look at not let you find exactrly what you want.

    [–]JasonCarswellMental Orgy 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

My multisubs list was more than a little ambitious, trying to categorize all the subs, before I was basically forced to stop.

It would be totally easy to create a simple basic listing of all the subs in one list (awkward navigation through pages after pages in random order), and it would be pretty easy to keep updated. Then with a simple CTRL-F your browser could search it for you.

If you think it would help I could do it, though I have a few other things I need to work on first.

What are some of the new subs? I've been trying to find good subs and post content/comments on them. s/books and s/buddhism for example. I've thought about creating s/GenX but I'm not sure if I'm up to moderating at present.

    [–]smokratez 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

When you try to make too many small niche shits, it dies. We on voat have the whatever sub, which is tons of little things nobody would otherwise care about.

    [–]Leo_Littlebook 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Use Saidit for things you can't discuss on Reddit.

Don't use Saidit for things Reddit can do.

So if you want dissident discussion of music, then create an umbrella music sub, because there won't be enough people to divide it into tiny genres like on Reddit.

    Common sense.
