because they're not a singular race. they are multiple ethnic groups and/or a religion. there's brown and black jews, not just the ashkenazi/european.

Because unfortunately the English language lacks a good word for being against a religious/cultural group. The word antisemitism was coined to give a word to the specific problems faced by Jews. To my knowledge nobody has done the same for Islam, for example. (People tend to say you are "racist" if you are anti-Islamic, ignoring that Islam stretches across all races.)

This is an area where a new word would be great to have.

The term was invented by German anti-semites to make it sound more intellectual. Before that it was known as Jew-hatred.

Edit: I also hate *phobic, on technical grounds. Just because you're against something doesn't mean you are scared of it.
