How does that karma gate work?

Is it sub specific karma, or sitewide, so that it basically just stops newly created accounts?

Is there a cap to how high the requirement can be set?

Its sub specific, most of them aren't gated, but news and a few others are set at 100, although they can be set to anything the moderator wants. The cooldown on posting and commenting is affected by karma too, though I'm not sure on the math for that, but its a huge difference between this account and any alts I create

Out of curiosity, why do you need alts here?

Usually just satire, trolling, or joking around. But the site owner magnora7 has a pretty terrible track record when he decides to be present to moderate. He has banned many people for material he doesn't like that does not violate any of the sites rules, but won't do anything about the users doing racist hate speech which is pretty prevalent here. However this site lacks the sophisticated techniques reddit has to identify and ban users, so new accounts are a pretty regular thing here.

This place beats reddit in terms of censorship, and its not as toxic as some of the other reddit alternatives, but it isnt a utopia by any means, just one of the better options for me personally in terms of free speech/toxic speech ratio, its a hard thing to balance, and is an issue on most every platform.
