I've read it now and it's a good one. Reminds me of another short story: some monk-scientists build a computer for a special purpose. I think it's called The Names of God but don't remember the author. It's about as mind-blowing as The Last Question, but I won't reveal the shocking ending. I was reading so much science fiction in my teens that at some point I forced myself to stop, and read only "the important stuff." But every year or so someone would start talking about Phillip Jose Farmer or some other SF author and I'd be off again. Thanks.
