Maybe if socialists did something worthwhile. But no.

This is my biggest gripe with socialists. In a libertarian capitalist country, socialists are totally free to create a socialist sub-community. There is absolutely nothing stopping them from getting cheap land and forming a commune. Communes like The Farm already exist, and there are countless millionaire socialists (such as Bernie Sanders) who would have the means to fund them.

But despite having the freedom and the means available, most socialists have no interest in doing the hard work themselves. Either out of laziness or sheer desire for dominance, they instead appeal to the State to compel unwilling people to provide them with the things they want.

I have to give credit where credit is due - socialists are amazing at activism, public messaging, and institution capture. Everyone who is not a socialist should learn from socialists if they want to win over the public. But socialists suck (either intentionally or unintentionally) at actually getting what they want done by themselves. They hate it, and can only hope authoritarian forces will step in to force others to do what they want. That's why I can't respect them, outside of the few who are willing to form things like communes and try to accomplish their goals through their own work rather than taking the work of others.
