A Capitalist makes Capital work for them.

Everyone else works for Capital.

She doesn't sound very bright. I can't remember hearing others calling themselves "capitalists" at all.

True, capitalists rarely self-identify as such. It's usually a label foisted on others.

At the core capitalism is the use of capital (money) to control the social hierarchy, imo.

This is a good point, it's all about power, and the various '-ism's are expressions of that power in various forms.

Someone posted this interesting comment then deleted it but I had already written a reply so I'm just going to post both here:

I would say at the core of capitalism lies the opportunity to acquire money and power; the ability to control the social hierarchy is more a consequence than the intent of capitalism.

Hmm I have to disagree. What good is having millions if you can't buy power with it? And even building a $10m house is actually an exercise in controlling the social hierarchy: Getting the workers to do as you wish, getting the construction materials you want from the people who make them, etc. If you had $100m but were trapped on a deserted tropical island with no human contact, it means nothing.

When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.

Are not all forms of governing, no matter what name you use to label it (pick an -ism) built to do this one thing control the social hierarchy? It is funny to read so many people hot about their -isms being better than the others -ism. I love a good discussion about difference of opinion, yet worry about the divide that maybe conquering both sides.

I think also part of the definition means that a capitalist can survive from the profit generated by their capital. Whereas labor has to actually work to make money. So if you don't have to do labor to make money, then I'd say you're a capitalist. So by that definition I'd say it's more like 10 million than 100 million
