Great feedback man, thanks.

  1. I agree about the post buttons. Our positioning says chat is more important than posting, but that's not right.
  2. Yes, you're correct, insightful is worth 2 points and funny is worth 1.
  3. Not starting with 2 points is maybe a good idea, or maybe start with both interesting and funny upvoted? Reddit doesn't let you vote on yourself so this initial vote is assuming everyone agrees with their own post. I guess we could enable full self voting.

One thing we have in the works is a "funny" tab which will replace controversial. Maybe subs ahould be able to put this one first if they are comedy related.

/u/magnora7 should we move the post buttons above the chat widget in the sidebar?

  1. No problem! Self-voting with both, however, means that you then have to manually change the vote if you don't think your post is interesting or funny.

  2. Honestly, there's little purpose in upvoting your own content being possible; perhaps you could just start comments and posts with 0 or 1 vote score, whichever looks better, and disable self-voting.

  3. Seems like the interesting/funny difference is to make it apparent that interestingness is more valued than funnyness; this makes no sense in comedy subreddits, eve if it's funny-sorted by default.

  4. Funny subreddit posts having half as much karma due to being voted funny instead of interesting affects where they appear on the front page, which is by default not funny-sorted. Seems like a better idea to just make subreddits capable of choosing to have interesting/funny as 2:2, 2:1 or 1:2.

  5. However, then you may run into issues with people voting from the front page; you'll have to make sure that voting from outside asubreddit respects the vote settings of the subreddit the post is from.

Yeah, we could start everything at a score of 0 and not 2, and not have the insightful auto-vote.

Agreed, we have a built in bias in this regard. I believe the intention here is to keep low effort content from dominating /s/all not that funny stuff is necessarily low effort. Within a comedy sub though, the funniest content should still rise to the top though and work more or less as expected. I guess insightfully funny things would be overvalued though which you find inappropriate?

That's an interesting idea. That would let funny and insightful subs each encourage that kind of content. I think that would remove our bias from /s/all though.

The problem then is that people like to see funny stuff on their front page, and may be subscribed to funny subreddits for that reason; perhaps you could have a default sort which gives interesting votes more weightage, and a fair sort which use the subreddit-specific vote scores?

Yeah that's not a bad idea. I think in the near term, chaging controversial to funny will solve the sort issue on front and all.
