No one should push it, but letting a 14 year-old know that dating people of the same gender is an option, at least in the majority's eyes, is perfectly alright. Drag queens doing reading time is disgusting, but letting a boy know that it's fine to go to prom with another boy isn't pedophilia or sexual harrasment, much like how having "the talk" with your kids or inquiring about their girl-friends/boyfriends isn't pedophilia either.
