As with most articles, the most truth comes in the last line:

Being able to pay for an adequate amount of housing—not huge, but larger than a tiny house or apartment—shouldn’t be so far out of reach.

I had a chick hit me up on a dating app who's bio had "I want to live in a tiny house".

I was like "bitch, I ain't living in a fucking dog house."

I live in a converted school bus, approx 320 square feet of room. It's great for one person (and my dogs) but I would not want it to be any smaller.

i've got an 11m bus. I've added another 30m2 of outbuildings and it is still too small

I've seen lots of pro-tiny house articles, interesting to see one on the other side of the fence. Personally I think a person needs at least 1000 sqft to feel comfortable (if you have hobbies and businesses and stuff). I think my ideal house size would be like 2000 sqft, have a music room, etc. A house that's like 6000+ sqft is a nightmare to maintain and heat and cool. So there is a healthy middle ground

they made up the mcmansion meme to try to trick americans into thinking a small house is ok and wanting a big house is a bad thing. meanwhile the rich always want the hugest mansions. class warfare. all of history is fighting over land.

I wanted to get a tiny house to use as lake house and I was amazed at just how expensive they are. I mean damn for the price of a decent one I could just have an actual house built.

I think it depends on your situation. If you're single, it's much more doable. Often times a small home is the same price or a little more than a tiny home, so that may be a better investment.

Of course they're not for everyone, but I think tiny & small homes can help solve the homelessness / rent trap problem many people are facing. As long as you can afford it and are paying a fair rate, a mortgage is almost always better than paying rent you're never going to see again.

The tiny house thing is akin to the van living thing now, ideas for rich morons who want to prove they can do without or are 'different'. Then they wake the fuck up and you never hear from them again.
