Nice! When you set that first pan on the ground is when I think it was doomed because of the temperature differential being too great, that's thermal shock and the newer pyrex is more prone to it since they use soda glass now instead of borosilicate like they used to. I think setting the second one on that rack helped.
A thicker cooking vessel would probably help with the burning, although I think your temp is just too high all around. I bet you could cook corn bread in there after the fire is out, just with the residual heat.

Thanks for sharing your observations. I didn't know pyrex changed their glass-making ingredients. And I think you are right about the oven being too hot.
The edges of the cornbread were burned, but I ate what I could salvage and it's already gone. I might try cooking another batch with some variations.
