This (on a lower level) just happened to one of my best friends last week. His GF got in a fist fight with her own daughter, afterwards she accused HIM of making the bruises and called the cops (he wasn't even home). The police came and arrested him later. He currently can't go into his (solely) owned home or retrieve any of his belongings inside until he can prove he is the owner of the items. Meanwhile she can live there rent-free until it goes to court. And he's going to have to shell out $10K+ to hire a lawyer.

I think she might have messed up tho because a few days later she tried to claim he violated her new restraining order and came to his house (where she is staying, of course). A warrant went out for his arrest and it was going to cost him another $1K - but the cops later got evidence that he couldn't have been there. Unfortunately that's only good evidence for when the trail finally occurs. When she inevitably looses the case, it'll just be a slap on the wrist, we all know it.
