You don't need CFCs for refrigeration. In fact the lateat refrigeration standard is just highly pure propane. But if they can improve the tech to be as compact as a peltier but more efficient it can have applications. I don't see this ever replacing refrigerants.

He's probably talking about HFCs.

Propane is flammable, so has limited applications.

Flammability is not a problem in a low oxygen environment.

    The tiny amount if propane in a refrigeration unit is not dangerous even if it were to leak.
