Why would you need to stop water?

Water is used by your bod for everything, including moving fat

You don't have to, it's simply quicker & more effective. Body fat is a source of “metabolic water”.

It seems quicker because you lose fluid but as soon as you go back to drinking healthily you'll put that water weight back on.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

That's part of the equation but not the full story. If you had any experience you would know.

If you had any intelligence you would know better. Dehydration will slow you down as it kills you. The claim that you are burning more calories while being lethargic and dying is retarded.

burning more calories while being lethargic

I'm not arguing for a dry fast, but your basal metabolism sitting on the couch burns way more calories than anything but the most strenuous activities, like marathons or mountain climbing.

And I point that out not to be nitpicky, but many people think they can't lose weight without exercise so they don't try.

[–]ReeferMadness 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Your resting metabolism is dependent on how healthy you are, so an active person's resting metabolism burns more in the 22 hours of non exercise than the 2 hours of exercise. But an inactive person's metabolism is much much slower. Starving yourself is a lot harder than exercising. People who crash diet always put the weight back on.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

But an inactive person's metabolism is much much slower.

That's a myth. You can't make your metabolism more or less efficient unfortunately. The whole page is relevant in that link but for convenience I just c&p'ed one passage:

That increased calorie burn lasts as long as your workout. You might keep burning extra calories for an hour or so after that, but the aftereffects of exercise stop there. Once you stop moving, your metabolism will go back to its resting rate.

People who crash diet always put the weight back on.

Yup, and not just crash diets. The majority of people put back on the weight. The only way it sticks is if you make a lifelong change and that's not easy. I lost 49lbs a couple years ago and spent last year mostly putting it on again. It's frustrating.

So will building more muscle not boost your metabolism? Yes, but only by a small amount.

Then they go on to contradict themselves.

I'm not going to go find the paper, but studies have shown that the mitochondria of active people is very different than that of sedentary people. In sedentary people the mitochondria are clumped together and each cell has far fewer of them. They simply can not produce the same amount of ATP.

The article you are citing is the unscientific opinion of the author, who is confusing the difference in resting and exercising metabolic rate of the same person with the difference of resting rates of two different people.

I simply can't trust the opinion of someone who claims this is a myth because when you stop exercising your metabolism returns to its resting rate. That is simply not sound logic. Of course it returns to the resting rate, but that has nothing to do with how your resting rate compares to someone else who is in completely different shape than you.

It supports what I experienced personally and other people's experiences in a few weight loss subreddits. I logged a whole year of dieting and my BMR changed very predictably based on my current weight and additional calories expended did not affect the BMR as far as I could tell.

Go deboonk something on reddit, fatty.

Metabolic water...? Interesting...

A quick google reveals stuff about mice and finches but little about humans. I'm curious if we can burn through enough fat fast enough to keep the body hydrated?

Apparently 100 g of fat produces 110g of water. OK... About 100 grams of fat is 900 calories, and when fasting you don't exercise heavily, so say around the classic 2000 calories a day, call it 200 grams of fat or 200 ml/g of water. That's one decent-sized glass of water a day, while not getting any water from food?

Doesn't seem enough.

[–]Canbot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Fat can not produce water. That is not how any of this works. This is pseudo science.

[–]Myrkskog 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I've only managed a 60hr dry fast. I was amazed at the volume of urine I passed during the fast. I'm lean anyway, so I can't speak to rapid fat loss, but that is allegedly where the water is coming from. I would recommend the book The Phoenix Protocol by Dr August Dunning if you have any interest in dry fasting. Weight loss is a secondary effect, mind you.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Thank you.

[–]Myrkskog 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

11 days is the limit of the dry fasting protocols listed in that particular book. 7 - 11 days is recommended length.

Bad, bad idea to stop water. Going to destroy your kidneys and you'll only temporary lose water weight, no benefit.

[–]Node 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

He did point out that his total weight loss was higher, but "after I rehydrated" his loss was 14 pounds.

The claim here seems to be that no water intake increases the fat loss rate. Then he suggested "snake juice" for the pussies who get thirsty, but the fat loss is slower? No idea what his snake juice is.

I'd want a second opinion on what no water does to your kidneys after a few days.

[–]Canbot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

No idea what his snake juice is.

He is literally pushing "snake oil" and probably thinks it's cleaver to allude to it while lying to everyone. He probably gets off on thinking he is more intelligent than the people he defrauds and putting clues like that in just amplifies that reaction.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Fasting is not snake oil, and there is no money to be made from telling people to stop eating.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Well you're wrong, bucko.

[–]Node 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Any idea what his snake juice is?

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I think this is his latest recipe

Water=2L

Potassium chloride =1 tsp

Sodium chloride = 1/2 tsp

Sodium Bicarbonate = 1 tsp

Magnesium Sulphate = 1/2 tsp

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wonder what point the sodium bicarbonate has. Potassium Chloride can be purchased in most supermarkets as a salt substitute (NuSalt) and magnesium sulfate is Epsom Salt. With the table salt it's good for hangovers too.

Edit: thinking about it, I'd guess the baking soda is for stomach acid.

This is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Water has zero calories. If you believe this you need to find someone you trust to make your decision for you. Dont do this without consulting them.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Animals can use melanin to extract energy from water. Like plants do with chlorophyll, but more efficiently.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

No they can't, you have been lied to.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Wow did a minute of research before you spout your ignorance.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

No, he's right. Water can not have any calories. If you think it can because you did "research" you are a moron who can't tell the difference between absurd bullshit and science.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Where did I say water has calories, faggot? Hint: I didn't.

[–]Comatoast 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Technically the fastest method would be DMP.. if you have a death wish.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

DMP?

[–]Comatoast 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Whoops. I let my finger slip on that before submitting. DNP.

I don't know why he is mad. Also, i wouldn't dry fast for very long without professional help.

What's your point? Edit: Did you mean to type sunlight?

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

What's your point?

Cells need energy. They get it from food, fat or water.

Did you mean to type sunlight?

Personally, I believe that drinking less water is easier than living in the darkness deep underground. But sure, light is an important ingredient as well.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

our discovery of the intrinsic property of melanin transform light energy into chemical energy by means of the water molecule dissociation,

They literally are not even claiming that melanin turns water into energy, but that melanin captures energy from the sun to break down water and release oxygen. Not for energy, but as a substitute for oxygen that would be taken in by breathing. The oxygen is then used to burn energy. They are literally studying how turtles can go long periods of time without breathing.

The purpose of discerning the ability of the painted turtle, of tolerating extended periods of anoxia, even months, will improve our understanding

Not only that but whoever wrote this is clearly struggling with English. I would not trust this persons interpretation of any kind of result, let alone to faithfully and accurately execute a scientific experiment.

And whoever told you this study shows that water can be used to create energy is bullshiting you. Probably in order to convince you of water powered cars or some other bullshit.

Countless articles and studies claim it. This one only mentions it, since it isn't the main topic.

Google can give you hundreds of other articles if you dislike this one for some reason.

This one only mentions it,

It literally doesn't. What the article talks about and what you are claiming are two very different things. You just don't seem to understand what you are reading.
