Today, in real life, I heard someone utter the following:
I don’t understand non-binary. But I also don’t understand the Krebs Cycle. Just because I don’t understand it doesn’t make it real.
Mercifully it was in a context where I didn’t have to directly respond. What was running through my head was, “I don’t rightfully understand centaurs but it might be because they aren’t real.”
However, it got me thinking. People are swallowing dogma that not only makes zero sense, but flies in the face of reality. They’re doing this without question because they think it makes them a nice, enlightened person. How on earth do you actually reason with someone who’s willing to shut themselves off from facts because they think they’re being progressive?
