But now developers will actually have to make decent content and they'll actually have to try and innovate to achieve success! We can't have that now, it's better to just give your child a virtual slot machine and drain people's bank accounts through addictive reward systems.

In a statement, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) said that numerous countries including Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Australia and the UK had determined that loot boxes were not akin to gambling.

This could possibly have an effect on similar industries such as the mystery box toy industry (Shopkins and Treasure X are two prominent examples right now) which does something similar. What do you guys think?

I think parents should be refusing to let their kids play these games or at least refusing to pay extra. The companies should absolutely be free to offer these games - It's your choice to consume their products. They're not holding a gun to anyone's head.
