The annoying about suckless is that they are a bunch of people that think they know what they are doing and also share that with the rest of the world.
I don't doubt it works (I read the code), but I know how the best code in the world looks like and this doesn't come close. I would say these guys miss a PhD from Harvard, a decade of academic experience, and a decade of industry experience.
If they would just announce themselves a little bit more modest, they wouldn't be such an easy target for criticism. In fact, they are so good that they don't even benchmark against the tools actually being used in industry at scale (probably, because they are ignorant).
