just got an android 12

can't change the lock screen

doesn't start my media player upon insertion of headphones

it is listening to everything (it will 'close caption' all your text for you! thanks no assholes)

any time you enter a password google wants to keep it for you (i'm sure they don't keep it.. /s)

'factory unlocked' means 'carrier unlocked' .. unlocking it requires extra bullshit and clearly designed to prevent you from actually doing it (but persistence wins everytime)

There are ways to (hopefully!) get old-fashioned cell phones to work. They're not that expensive on e-bay, they're more private, and they're basically just phones. If you need a phone just for calls and not apps, it can be helpful.

Wow, a headphone jack? Most phones don't have those anymore. I'm not one of those guys who thinks that ditching the headphone jack was an innovative or smart thing for manufacturers to do, in fact it is one more reason for me to not buy new phones anymore.
