Nicely done. Just turning the spear "around"... One of the oldest tactics humans know about.

    Respect.

Wait, so if I'm using maps to find something in an emergency, this task can be interrupted by a fucking ad? Not having that shit. I'm glad I switched to Android last year. I did that so I could download apps from the browser like uncensored Telegram, but now I have another reason to never come back to iOS if Apple pulls this crap. Maybe my next tablet could be an Android.

I already get ads on Android Google maps after I have arrived at my destination. It is a slight irritation but it would be far worse if the ads came up at the beginning or randomly.

I hope the ads are not videos, or images that obstruct important information.

They are kind of a popup "things to do in XYZ", not easy to get rid of.

Annoying, but at least they’re not videos.

Are Apple devices not a premium device to begin with? You're going to pay top dollar so you can watch ads? I never got the appeal of apple and the iPhone to begin with but people are like cultist when it comes to the brand.

If this goes ahead (and it probably will) and there is not major blow back (and there probably won't be.) Android will follow. There will literally be no reason not too. Like FuckYourMom said, It's back to the flip phone for me as well.

    Rant

I was able to go until 2018 on a flip phone and only switched because I received a smart phone for free and all I had to do was change the SIM card. While there is a lot of convenience with a smart phone I noticed a drop in the amount of book reading I do. (On the phone before bed instead of reading) and also an increase in stress and anxiety directed completely at the phone. I tend to become hyper focused when working and beeps and dings will set me off. TBH I'm 50/50 on my smart phone and something like ads will be what I need to send me back to the flip.

Given the image, expected this to be some patent for ensuring you're watching the ad by eye tracking. Apple should patent that so others don't do it.

Anyone still using apple products in today's age, deserves this.

I really, really doubt it and whoever wrote this article is either a moron or intentionally misrepresenting the story for clicks. Apple already shows ads on iOS in a number of apps including the app store, the music store, and the tv app. These ads are in the form of both dedicated banners and tiles in the page structure while browsing, as well as interspersed into search results. Absolutely nothing suggests any move to force users to watch ads like on youtube or various streaming platforms.

I need a new phone but the way things are I feel like I'll need to buy a boxed phone from 5+ years ago to avoid stuff like this

It's really sad but the only surefire way to avoid having your computing devices transformed into a privacy invading ad slinging nightmare by corporate America, is to use Linux.

I use Linux, it's not perfect and I understand why a lot of people don't like it. I wish we had more choices...

The WileyFox mobile phone used this advertisement model, it would display adverts on the lockscreen and every time you activate it. You'd pay them £40 to remove the adverts and it wouldn't work. The company ended up going bust. Good riddance, Apple.

Jeff Bezos' lemonade stand also already tried these grabble-table tactics with "their" bs flavor of android.

And failed, too. Which i looked at with an atomically diabolic grin from ear to ear, so to say.

This will ultimately be a good thing if it annoys users into less screen time.

The day they pull this shit is the day I dig out my old flip phone.
