did the shift about a year and a half ago, to system76 with pop!_os it is their mod' unbuntu. could not be happier with them and linux. i get actual LIVE HUMANS to talk with in collardo if i have an issue and 5 years of auto updates to the system. yes there is a learning curve but there will be in 11 too. i would do it again and don't ever see myself going back either, there is no need.

When I stop playing AAA games is when I'll say goodbye to my last Windose PC.

That's what I said up until year. Gaming have come a long way on Linux, if I'm not playing AAA games with native support I'm playing games through Proton. Even Windows online FPSs with anti-cheat. I have dual boot on my gaming rig but use the win10 part less and less.

I said the same thing a few years back. I dumped windows about 6 months ago, and haven't looked back.

The only game I've had trouble with is Rust - it won't do multiplayer under Linux.

Windows 10 is DISGUSTING. Every other day it hijacks itself to install updates when they're not authorized. EVERY privacy setting gets reverted back after updates. Countless things get installed and run without authorization and from what I read it's constantly reporting information back to microsoft. Add to it the fact that IT NEVER POWERS DOWN. Even when you hit shutdown, it remains operating in the background, CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET!

FUCKING FUCK MICROSOFT WITH EVERYTHING I HAVE. When the SHTF I PRAY on my KNEES that microsoft is blown to shit.

i dont remember the web address to download this program, but it completely put a stop to my auto updates in windows 10, and i have not noticed any issues because of running it.

It looks worse than Windows 95 too, and they removed all the customization options. Like Apple.

The people who decided to support the evil empire (bill gates and associates) by using windows are responsible for this 'pandemic' hoax, along with much other evil in the world.

[–]Chipit 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

What a deliberately stupid statement.

[–]Node 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Ah, a windows user. Is your claim that gates made his money by selling... I dunno, muffins?

No, there's no person who didn't know about gates and his evil empire selling windows to make money, so they could do evil. EVERYONE knew, and it's not exactly forgotten knowledge...

Thanks for the great example of why there's no hope for anything to get better. Was your support for evil worth it? Did you 'save money' by selling out your principles?

[–]Chipit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

This is just stupid trolling.

Young, eh?

Bill Gates abandoned Microsoft before he turned evil though. A few years ago he completely resigned, until then he was just sitting there collecting money for doing nothing.

It feels so strange now but Microsoft was actually a good company back in the Gates era.

[–]Node 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Then you must not be familiar with gates. His practices and behaviors earned him and his company the title of Evil Empire, even before the end of the 80s. That's an extensive topic I'm not going to rehash.

It's been examples like that over the decades that led me to see there is no 'hope' for humanity. Now that we're reaping the results of so many supporting evil, people are complaining about the consequences of their actions. To be fair, most of those are probably vaxxers though.

The irony is that one is almost forced to agree with them, since they've proven their point about humanity time after time. The covid-hoax is just the latest example.

until then he was just sitting there collecting money for doing nothing.

That was the PR. Here's just one example. Remember how he was presented as the super nerd who created a cheapo OS for the average wage slave? Now it comes out that he was actually forcing or pressuring his female employees to have sex with him, not just sitting there coding all day.

I was just beginning my separation from society when it was released, but the accuracy of the Matrix movie (and anime it was stolen from) in representing the state of our species still amazes me.

[–]Vulptex 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I think The Matrix is literally accurate too. As in this world is actually a simulation. It's impossible to prove from the inside but all the subtle hints point to it being simulated instead of real. Like the speed of light for example, or even physics in general and how it operates on strict laws exactly how a computer would do it.

16 For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. - source

Not exactly describing a computer simulation, but also not describing an independant or spontaneous situation. We have no relevant frame of reference, but really, how plausible is our situation? We take it for granted because we're in it, and it's all we've known. But yeah, God or a computer simulation are at least as plausible as "everything just came to be from nothing".

I definitely don't think God is currently in charge of it directly, because the very nature of this world and Jesus are polar opposites. I also highly doubt that this is the real world though. What's outside of here we can only guess.

Linux is OK unless you want to upgrade. They drop support for hardware too fast because they can't afford to support it all.

[–]thefirststone 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's the other way around. I look for old-enough computers that Linux will support them fully, because few hardware suppliers bother to do it themselves. We have to wait for volunteers to catch up.

In 2 years you'll run into problems when you want to upgrade to a new version.

Linux should run on almost any Dell, HP, Lenovo, or other Linux-compatible computer.

This is the most important sentence to get out of this article. While linux is a decent solution, it doesn't have market wide support.

There is so much that doesn't work out of the gate on linux. Drivers come woefully late and behind windows. Many games won't work.

Everything is designed to work with the devil's corporation and it sucks.

    [–]NotAGoat9000 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

My experience over the last few years has been quite the opposite. I've thrown some quite old / oddball hardware at Debian/Ubuntu, and 99% of it worked out-of-the-gate with no configuration needed on my end. Most of the problems come when trying to use super rare, or expensive enterprise stuff. A few years ago, GPU's could be a big issue, but even that's mostly settled now.

I'll never use a "personal computer" OS that requires an internet connection and 'online account' to even install. Nor am I going to scrap my five existing boxes and buy TPM modules and "secure boot" BIOS to meet MicroSlut's hardware requirements.

Nah. The first time I have to start hunting for a bugfix because my sound doesn't work is the day I uninstall it and never look back.

I dumped Linux when they got rid of yum install and went to something stupid.

    [–]thefirststone 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

There's more than Fedora, which kind of sucks. Try Pop!_OS or Manjaro.

    [–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think you can still use yum, it just doesn't come pre-installed.

haha ok I was too harsh, I used linux years ago and liked it but didn't like changes they made since, that being said yeah microsoft and their windows is worse, I had them do that update out of nowhere on me too, and all it did was make things run slower.

      [–]Vulptex 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Linux isn't one OS. There are many many many different Linuxes from different parties.
