When you migrate to mint, you can have vim and emacs. If you're ready to dive into one of these (either rather shallow or extremely deep) rabbitholes you'll never miss notepad again. At least this happened to me. When i had emacs configured to full satisfaction i wept for a week when i lost the configuration because of a hdd headcrash. But since we're now living in times where ssd's and flash is everywhere i suppose you'll never encounter this problem.
