I can't even use my newest MBPro. It's been in the shop four times, the mother board replaced four times, and they won't replace it. Used to love them. Totally hate them now. Please, someone invent the Kiwi or Pomegranate, the Apple is rotten.

Hp Elite, Dell Latitude and Lenovo Thinkpad (refurbished if you want to save a lot of money, these badboys are business end models and therefor usually in great condition) Have great specs, durable design (overall) and if something breaks, you can easily replace it yourself.

Just check for some reviews on the specific model and don't forget to install a Linux distro ;)

Thank you Mnemonic. I fear that in my decrepitude learning a new os will be like learning chinese. This from someone who knew some unix back in the day but only remembers how to kill all processes ;D

Well there are enough tutorials and newcomer friendly distros.

https://itsfoss.com/macos-like-linux-distros/ The first two in the list are the most used and have active communities and both are based on Ubuntu.
