Which is trickier to install : Arch or Gentoo? I get the impression that they're for power users only and that's why I stick to Mint/Mate...

Pretty sure Gentoo is more difficult, though I haven't used it. It's the one where you have to compile literally everything from source.

Yeah, they always joke about it on 4chan. If you know what you're doing, you have total control and are able to install only the components you need.
Always been curious about BSD too, wonder how it compares to linux...
